On the anniversary of 9/11, I thank you and your comrades for your selfless duty and courage that momentous day. Your sacrifice and those of the victims and other first responders will forever be honored in the annals of brave men and women who gave their all for their city, state and for the United States of America. A hero in every sense of the word. Thanks also for your USMC service. You no doubt could have opted for safer assignments but opted to serve in ESU. It says a lot about who you were.

Hey Mike! Another year gone by, but still seems like it was yesterday! Big turnout at the Golf Outing as usual, and the memories and war stories were flying. I met a few more guys that you served with in The Corps who tell me that you were a mentor to them. Why am I not shocked! Reading all the reflections, it’s amazing all the People you touched.
You are Missed by many, and You, and Your Family are always in my Prayers! Semper Fi! Brother, and Good Night Chesty!

I have never known you or was born during 2001 when 9/11 event was taken, but I do know my parents and the rest of the world knew what happened. Reading your wife's comments on articles after articles and the reflections your closest friends and family make; show me more of who you are, even with you not being able to be here to tell your story. A true hero, who risked his own life to save others. Not a lot of people have the confidence to go into danger, they usually run from it. I am deeply sorry for you missing your wife's birthday, but you left her with the best gift of your children who will someday be just like you. For any NYPD reading this or other viewers, thank you so much for your service. Ya'll have created a bother and sisterhood and given his family love through every 9/11 memorial. I will one day have to receive my dad's folded flag and trust me it's not a feeling anyone would want.

Hey Brother, thinking of you today as I do everyday. Also reflecting on all that perished that terrible day, and the ones that didn’t because of you. I am thankful for our friendship since we were kids, and all the Great Times, and Adventures we had. You always looked out for the guy next to you, and I know you are still looking out for me. You did so much for so many with no fanfare, and the word Can’t was not in your vocabulary. I am still telling the Mike Curtin stories, and even better when I speak to someone who knew you, and we exchange stories. You are Missed , but your Legend lives on. God Bless You and Your Family. Today, our community started a new tradition of recognizing specific police officers and firefighters who died trying to save others on September 11, 2001. Our first police honoree was Sergeant Mike Curtin. He was suggested to me by my good friend, NYPD (Ret) Lieutenant Bill Larney. It was our honor to talk about Mike's life, his service to his country in the USMC, his service to the NYPD, and most of all the love he had for his friends and family. It is men and women like Mike that make us proud to put on our uniforms and badges everyday. Thank you for your sacrifice. It was an honor letting our community know about you. God bless the Curtin family and all of the other families who grieve on this day.

Thinking of you today Mike, along with all the souls, family members and friends affected by the 9/11 tragedy. Am remembering how full of life you were back in high school, you were always in the middle of our fun times - whether it be beach parties, school functions, sledding down the Rocky Point hills or donating time to visit inmates at the local mental health facility. My prayers are with you and your family. Be at peace.

Seventeen years has not lessened the sadness of the loss NYPD suffered on that day. It is not realistic to post a reflection on each brother and sister lost. Sergeant Curtin is special to me because he was an ESU Member and a Irish cop. I am an old Irish cop and a former SWAT guy. My great grandfather, grandfather, five uncles and many cousins have been NYPD.
The officers lost on 9/11 will NEVER be forgotten by family.

God bless the NYPD Brotherhood of the Fallen, the set a standard of honot and commitment we should all follow

I met Michael as a young teenager in Rocky Point. Even at that young age he spoke of the military and always wanted to serve his country. Michael was one of the nicest, kindest people I have ever had the privilege to know. A group of us spent a lot of time together in at the beach, both day and night. It was a wonderful, mostly innocent time. It does not surprise me that Michael was a selfless hero on 9/11. And I know that he was involved in other dangerous rescues as well. I pray for his wife and his daughters. They have sacrificed greatly. God bless you all and may He continue to grant you strength and peace.

Mike, I never met you, but your story lives on...especially on this day. Master Gunnery Sergeant Ted Isaacson said you were a hell of a Marine, I believe him. Your exploits in Oklahoma City, and your heroism on September 11th are an example to all Marines everyday. Semper Fidelis and until I have the privilege of joining you on Heaven's Guard Force!
