Sir, on today the 8th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you to you and all the other LEOs who died that day for your service and sacrifice for our Country. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Officer Gorman made me laugh, as did Officer Lennon. He would bring the prisoners over for arraignment in Newark Municipal Court, and occasionally appeared for a trial during the time I served as a municipal prosecutor.

As with the other officers for whom I left reflections, I will never forget his face, his kindness, or his professionalism. And he, as all of the officers we regularly worked with in the Newark Municipal Court, is missed. He was a bright spot in a dark place. God bless and keep him close.

Dear Tom:
I feel so helpless that I can't do more than write a reflection to a fallen brother. I understand that it is an honorable thing to do, for an honorable man such as yourself. But somehow, it doesn't seem enough. I don't think medals would be enough. I don't believe that memorials or parades would be enough. No, there is nothing that can be deemed enough for the sacrifice you made.
Perhaps if Americans remain vigilant and remember what was done for them by you and the others, and if those fortunate souls who you helped save that day, earn the life they were given with such sacrifice, maybe that would be a start.
Though we have never met, as with all of us in this most honored profession, I feel as though I am close to you. Perhaps it's the badge. Perhaps it's the oath we all take; perhaps it's the feeling we get when we locate a little lost boy or girl and return them home safe and sound; perhaps it's the knowledge that 300 million Americans can run away from disaster and mayhem, but we run to it, to defend them. But whatever it is, I am honored to be a part of the profession that you have so exalted by your supreme sacrifice.
Thank you and may Almighty God bless you and keep your family safe and warm. In sacrifice there is valor. Godspeed and God Bless America and all her police officers. Amen.

The Peace Officer is vested with God's authority to enforce the law.
A Peace Officer's badge is to be honored by us, because God honors it.

You gave the ultimate sacrifice, your life for your fellow man, while serving, defending, and protecting others in your community.

Tom was a close personal friend and we shared a lot of memories stories and practical jokes when we worked together at Newark Airport and PATH. Tom was an Excellent Police Officer and his level of Honesty Integrity Courage Generousity Compassion and Concern for his fellow officers, friends, and the general public were immeasurable.He will be remembered by all as a Devoted Father and a shining example of what defines the true Law Enforcement Professional.His ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten.May you rest in peace brother.

I did not know Thomas Gorman, however after the attack I was given a bracelet to remember, to remember all that has happened and to honor the brave who made the ultimate sacrafice...there lives. Everynight I pray for this man and his family and when people ask if I knew him all i can say is that I wish i did. My name is Corporal John M. Reffel of the Fountain Police Department located in the City of Fountain, County of El Paso, State of Colorado. I was in the United States Army for ten years and have been a police officer for 4-1/2 years, and it has been the most fulfilling job in my life so far. I am a DARE officer and I am on the SWAT team assigned as entry alpha wingman. I know what it's like to say that I would take a bullet for anyone on my team. When I found out about all the deaths of my brothers in arms in New York, I took that first bullet and it hurt. I felt so helpless knowing I could not do much as I wanted to other than watch the test of courage from my brothers through the TV stations. About 2-1/2 months after the event, I was approached by a firefighter selling wrist bracelets with fallen hero names on them. He asked me to purchase one so I did. I wanted to know more about the name on the bracelet that I have. I know Thomas died doing what he loved best and would do it again if he had to. It's nice to put a face with the name on my wrist and give him respect by seeing him on the internet. It would have been better face to face. I will wear his name on my wrist for one year and on September 11, 2002 I will take it off and lay it to rest with my memories. God Bless You, Thomas Gorman, from your brother in blue in Colorado.

My Prayers are with all the friends and family of all the officers who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
I lost my brother tragically, Det. David Taylor, Greensboro PD, On August 7, 2001. I was in NY for my fiancee's Mother's funeral the first of Sept. I was stranded there for 3 weeks due to this atrocity. As I watched the events on TV, I cried for all those who lost their lives. But was especially emotional about the Police Officers and the Firefighters and their families, as I had just recently suffered a tragic loss myself. As I walked through the streets in the days following the attack, I cried with pride as I saw the officers on duty on all the corners in the city. I knew how hard it was for them, knowing they had lost their friends. On the Sat. following the attack I was at St. Patrick's for mass. The last 2 people to go up and take communion were 2 NYPD officers, again I cried. I hope all of you are getting the support that my family and I got when we needed it, from the Deparment. I know the comforting words and even the funny stories the officers tell us about my brother helps. I know that our loved ones who are gone from here, had a higher calling and are happy and at peace in Heaven. Hopefully we can all feel that same peace one day! God bless All of you! God I don't know what to say. I intend to post this message for each and everyone of you heroes so Officer, Detective, Agent, Whatever,... I thank you. You swore to serve and to protect. Well your days of protecting us are over. But you will forever be in service. Your eternal service... the inspiration you and your fellow bothers and sisters have re-enforced in my heart, will live so long as I do. Though I will not always carry your name in the front of my mind, not in my duties as a soldier or as the police officer I plan to become when I get home, I will still always carry with me the knowledge of your sacrifice... of your heroism, of your selflessness... I will carry a samll piece of you everywhere I go. Be it with an M-16 in my hands in a strange land, or a badge on my chest in my own back yard... long after the flags come down and the nation carries on... until the day I die... you will continue to serve... as my inspiration.
