Last year was the first time I haven't left you a message at Christmas. It was a really bad year. I pray you were waiting to greet my Dad as he passed thru the gates of Heaven. Our family always had such respect for you and Micki, my Dad was proud to have known you both.

In as much as I miss you and the life we all had ten and a half years ago, I never knew how hard it would truly be to lose a parent. My Dad was like you, no one could hurt him and he was a great protector. I can't believe I can't call him for advise or say "I love you" and hear him say it back any more.

I still visit your grave site every time I am in Tampa and think about how the loss of your life effected everyone that cared and loved you. The city of Tampa had a role model that was called home way too soon. I miss you Lois, I'll never forget you...

Hi Lois,

Tomorrow morning at the TPD Memorial Run I will wear your badge number with pride. You made such an impression on so many officers that you probably never even realized. I will never forget when I was a rookie, the first time I saw you. Fierce. That's the word that comes to mind. You were fierce about being a cop. I looked at you, small in stature, but larger than life. I thought, "I want to be a cop like that." When I heard you challenge the status quo to recognize your marriage fully, I said, "I want to stand up like that."

Now, ten years after your death shocked and devastated TPD, I hope I've lived up to your spirit. Sandy and I think of you often. I will run with your memory alive and well in my heart. God Bless.

This message is to all my fallen brothers/sisters who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the City of Tampa. On Febuary 9th, 2011 we broke ground on an enhancement to the Tampa Police Monument. This project was done to provide the most honorable place to remember your service.

Some of the names on that monument had fallen before my time, however we all wore the same uniform and were family. This enhancement will remind your loved ones that we will never forget all of you nor the sacrifices you made. I am proud to be part of this and hope that you will be smiling down at the finished product. God bless you all and your families. RIP..your sacrifices are remembered daily through those who continue to serve.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the ninth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. He too was ambushed during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers.

I pray for the solace of all those who love and miss you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

Merry Christmas Lois!!

What another eventful year without you. It was really hard to get into the Christmas spirit this year. So much has changed in '09, I wasn't ready for most of the events this year but as you know God laughs at our plans.

Enough of that ... FSU didn't win again this year, it was kind of an ugly game. But the bright side, Tebow won't be there next year so...FSU may have a chance next year. GO GATORS!!

We will never forget you. We look to the heavens and see the biggest, brightest star and know you are shining down on us. May God Bless you today and always.

I'm a female Police Officer from New Jersey. I just finished watching Officer Marrero's story on Court TV. My stomach turned and my heart broke. I lost a fellow officer in the line of duty. His wife, who is also a Police Officer in our department was three months pregnant when he was killed. I'm writing this so that all those who loved or were touched by Officer Marrero know that there are others who truly understand the pain and loss they felt and still feel. I will be in D.C. during Police week to honor her loved ones and her memory....

We aren't forgeting our (friendly) rivalary between ya'll and us with the Gators vs 'Noles football game. 45-15... We are sorry your team lost so bad. May be next year.

We got a start on the yard for the holidays. I'm still not going on the ladder. In the first Christmas box I opened, I found the stump of our Christmas tree you cut off. I remember you said you could make a candle holder out of it, then drilled three holes in it to hold the candles for a center piece, its dated 2000. For being a piece of non-treated wood its just as whole as it was that day. Its been our center piece every year since 2000.

We miss you Lois. Thanks for being part of our lives and giving us some life time memories we'll never forget.

It has been 7 years now and I imagine that your life partner still wakes to the thought of you daily. My partner is a police officer as well and I pray everyday that she comes home safe. I watched this story Tues, Jan 22, 2008. It was late night Court TV and I was determined to stay awake to hear the verdict in the case against the girlfriend involved with this horrific crime.
My condolences go out to the family and her partner whom have lost a dear loved one. I had to leave a reflection because I was very upset when I watched this trial air on TV.

Officer Marrero, you are loved by your brother and sister officers. You are and angel watching over us...

I WILL NEVER FORGET THE FIRST DAY I MET YOU WHEN I CAME TO YOUR SQUAD AS A NEW ROOKIE BACK IN 87 AND SGT PLOURDE PUT ME TO RIDE WITH YOU BECAUSE HE KNEW THAT YOU WERE A VERY GOOD AND AGRESSIVE OFC THAT I COULD LEARN FROM. AND OH YES I DID LEARN A LOT ABOUT POLICE WORK FROM YOU BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU TAUGHT ME WAS ABOUT LIFE SPECIFICALY ABOUT EXTENDING THE OLIVE BRANCH TO OTHERS EVEN WHEN THEY DIDN;T DESERVE IT AND I STILL TEACH THAT LESSON TO OTHERS TO THIS DAY IF THEY ALLOW ME. "The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Christmas 2000 ... Lois's words of encouragement to us on climbing the ladder, sitting on the roof top and stringing endless amounts of Christmas lights and rooftop decorations... "You can only fall as far as the ground, then the novelty is over"

In the five years since you've been gone, Ashley and I can not bring ourselves to climbing that ladder to put up the Christmas lights. Everything else (ground side) looks great :)
