Reflections for Sergeant Myron G. Deckard

G-d Bless.

June 5, 2007

Sgt Deckard,

It has been almost 6 years from the time we all heard the news of 4county6. As we all felt the loss and the pain of losing a fellow officer but more so a dear friend. I first met you in 1999 as a intern for the criminal justice program. Then after becoming an officer I was able to work with you on warrants and firearms class. Thank you for what you taught me in such a short time. you will be missed. Rest in peace.

it has been almost 6 years since myron has left us, but the pain is still with me every day and around the holidays it is worse, he love this time and our house was always open to have something to eat or just visit. his geandchildren ask about stories of about grandpa as they have heard people talk about him, I wish he had lived long enough to see them grow up. thanks to everyone who has left a message on the site, you cant know how much this means to me, I read it as much as possable, until it hurts to much. to all of you police officer, keep a good watch

Hard to believe it’s been five years, seems like only yesterday. But you’re still thought of everyday and your memory lives on in our hearts. Thank you for all you taught us and for watching our backs from up there.

Myron,

So sorry it has taken me so long to write a reflection. You were the best and we will never forget you. I attend the Police Memorial each year and pray for you. You were so very important in my career and taught me so much when you use to ride with me back at Danville Police Department. I remember you use to tell the Lieutenant that you would ride with the kid and watch out for me, and you did. Thank you and God Bless you. Dennis

Sgt. Deckard,
I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Vermilion County. It's too back that ex-governor Ryan couldn't perform his duty to you by commuting the death sentence of your murderer.

Three years ago this date
Sgt. Myron G. Deckard lost
his life in the never ending
pursuit of justice. Sgt. Deckard's
heroic actions on that day
is another tragic example
of the violence
law enforcement officers face
each and every day. All of our
shifts today are dedicated to the
memory of this hero. We extend
our deepest thoughts and prayers
to his family, friends and
fellow law enforcement oficers
hoping that in the knowledge
that he will never be
forgotten by us will bring
some peace to those
who knew and loved him.

To all of those who have made a reflection for my Grandpa... Thank you...

My Grandpa was a wonderful man. Many of you already know this for you have crossed his path in some shape or form. I never knew what a huge impact that my Grandpa has had on anyone's life until last week. It was absolutely astounding to see all those who have come forward to give their support, prayers & condolences. It is wonderful to hear the stories that everyone tells. It helps takes some of the pain away.

I know that nothing will ever replace him, but please keep his spirit and memory alive. One of the things that I can find comfort in is that he died doing what he enjoyed most Protecting lives.

To all those out in law enforcement today... Keep up the great job you are doing. Not only will I pray for those that have lost their lives in the line of duty and their families. I will also be praying for those who put their lives on the line everyday to protect us.

God Bless All

Myron will be sadly missed by our department and the citizens of Vermilion County, and not to mention by my k-9 partner Zoe' due to him being a Rottweiller lover and the tendency to spoil them a bit. Sgt. Deckard was a role model for us young guys and a portion of Sgt. Deckard has been instilled in all of us. To the family and friends of Myron my condolences. Myron was a dear friend of mine and will be missed. The thing I also miss is hearing his voice on the radio "CODE 650" (the code used when he was out on many of his warrant hunts) or him hollering "front sight" in your ear as he qualified me on the firing range. Sgt. Deckard rest in peace! You and your family will forever be in my thoughts and my prayers.

Myron Deckard was a childhood friend of my mother and the reason that I am in law enforcement today. The very first car I ever drove was his patrol car, I was 14. His mother fell ill with cancer as a child and was more or less adopted by my mother's family. He was raised as grandma's 11th child and was there for our family in their time of need. He gave of himself to make this world a better place and I am a better person for knowing Myron. God bless you Myron......10-42

I worked with Sgt. Deckard for 28 years until I retired in 1999. I was his Captain for 14 years. I have never seen a more dedicated police officer in my career. He would always volunteer for any assignment without question. He probably gave more of his time to our department than anyone. He lived, ate and slept police work!

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Rest in peace old buddy but remember "there are no bad guys in heaven."

Sgt.Deckard is a hero, he was willing to accept a dangerous position being a law enforcement officer, to protect citizens in his community. He is in a far better place now, and will be remembered as a dedicated brave officer.

He had many years to make a difference in peoples lives, and wont be forgotten....

It is always sad and quite frightening to hear of fellow officers and public safety personel who have paid the ultimate price for their servce, but this one is particularly difficult for me, having had contact with Sgt. Deckard several times in the course of our duties. My heart an prayers go out to his famliy and friends and to his fellow officers in Vermillion County IL. This is a very difficuly and somtimes dangerous job, but we carry on for the good of te citizens we serve..
God bless and remember that no one knows what wil happen daily so be careful and safe.

Sgt Deckard must of been a good well liked man from the reflections i've read about him. He lived a long life to bad it had to end by gunfire. I think the car should of had a gage for the offices protection. This guy probably was'nt considered dangerous so not muck precaution was taken. Please pray for his family and fellow officers. kenny
