Reflections for Police Officer Alberto "Albert" Vasquez

Albert -

Today is the first day I have ever seen this page. It brings my heart joy to know that Patty and your boys can find a little comfort knowing how much you are missed and thought of still by friends and family. We think of you often, and I know Cary will forever mourn the loss of you here with us.

I just discovered this site and I think is great that we have the opportunity of expressing our feelings for such a wonderful human being. You were my first friend when I came to the USA, with my only goal of becoming a Police officer. You gave me my first duty belt and my first bullets proof vest. Next to you almost every night, when you were taking care of our community on 6363 Beverly Hills, I learned a lot about professionalism and ethics as a police officer. And as a friend, beside all the time that we shared,as neighbors, at the celebration back to back of the Houston Rockets, at the Astro World parks, etc...I also took from you advises that later on, I applied working as a cop. I still can not believe that my first assignment was to represent my department at your funeral. I was still training with a supervisor, when I got the terrible news. Brother, I always kept your belt, your vest and your unconditional friendship from where I learned how to be a real police officer without been mean to the people around you. God bless you and your family for ever, and don't worry, we will get together again in the next life.

I've been thinking a lot about you lately. We were neighbors on Beverly Hilll St. and you worked off duty security at our apartments. We talked a lot when I would come home late from bars/clubs. You were always telling me about the dangers all around me. Kinda like a big brother. I told you I was thinking of moving off of Gulfton when my lease was up because the apts. were cheaper. You told me absolutely not!! You told me how bad that area was. I listened to you, I always listened. You were the nicest cop I'd ever known. You were so proud of your family and your sons. When I heard that someone had taken your life from you, my spirit was crushed. And that it happened in the area you had warned me of. I remember driving past your funeral on Westheimer and there were so many people. You were definitely on of the good ones. I know you're playing it sweet in Heaven.

Sweetie, it has been 15 years since your departure, our family chain is broken and nothing is the same. Today was a special day we honored you at your station - Westside, it was a beautiful ceremony; your son Andy and Beto were so proud and humble by this ceremony. Now your picture and name its in the Wall of Honor, it was a bittersweet moment for me. Te Amo.

Bro! Did you see me showing off the picture on my office desk again, the one I took of you and Rick on duty driving down 610 in your shop. Nice smile Bro! as I surprised both of you on your right, you riding shotgun remember. You did see that picture when I had it in my POV visor, then on my refrigerator door, and now again in my office. Good Bro! No need wondering why, it's because there will only ever be one Alberto Vasquez and you my Bro! were a great husband, father, son, partner to my brother and friend. Yes I know your in Heaven but I just want you to know I miss you on Earth.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 11th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections.

Rest In Peace.

Dear Everyone,
Today was the first time i ever knew people could post their reflections on here, and i would just like to say that i took the time to read every single post and would like to express how touched i am that everyone would take the time and write something. I Truly mean it when i say words can not express how much this has done for me, to know people thought of my father in such a way it brings me to tiers. So Thank you.

Al, Duharte, and Henderson were a great team. I hired them on at Timber Hollow Apartments when I took over in 1997. They were known out of the Westside Command Station as the "Bro" brothers because everything and everyone was "Bro." Once, I called AL, and he personally took down a top ten most wanted child molester at this complex. After that, we were great friends. I can not go into detail how it was so much different from other Alief cops except that they happily arrested those deserving, filled out paperwork, and made a wagon call. It wasnt even one month before my resuidents were outside again, couples going on sunset walks and holding hands. Al was an amazing guy, he dearly loved his 2 small kids, and his wife. He wanted to make a difference, and he did, his own way, in thousands of lives.

I was 16 when I met Officer Vasquez; he was the security caretaker at Sellers Bros where I worked during my young teenage years while in High School. I never met a better friend and older brother as Albert. I remember our conversations, I remember his investigation on a problem one of my neighbors was having and how excited he was to take on a mission impossible case. I remember that one evening we ate pizza and talked. I as well remember receiving the news of his passing away and how the tears came tumbling down before it hit me - my friend left. I pray for his family, his precious wife and precious children. I am so proud of them all and continue to always be proud of Officer Vasquez...he truly was a gentle soul!
