The stories from my grandmother Dorothy Feely Fugate Shaw gave insight to my Great Grandfather John Henry. I loved history especially of my family. My cousin erected the headstone on his grave in Feely cemetery. Also Jon Feely 1st born is buried there.

Volunteering at the Clark Hotel Historical Museum for 16 years and learning about the local history has made me very sensitive to the people who served to uphold the law in Van Horn, Culberson County, TX. Those who give their lives in the line of duty is the most we can ask for. I believe Sheriff John Henry Feeley to be one of our best. I feel for his family that I have met in this lifetime, today. I thank him for his service. May he rest in peace.

P.S. FYI: A beautiful headstone was recently placed in the Van Horn Cemetery by the family. The name on the stone will be spelled, Feely, per the family of today. I have filed in the museum a resent letter explaining this unusual change, and a couple of copies of old letters, which have the different spelling. pmg

100 years ago you fell in the line of duty. I am proud to serve and in some way follow your footsteps and a Texas Lawman. Thank you for your service, you are not forgotten.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 98th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect and your memory will always be honored and revered.

A fifty dollar fine seems ridiculous and a travesty of justice. You left behind a wife and six children. I hope the judge had enough moral fortitude to provide for your family.

As a former resident of Van Horn, Culberson County, Texas, the times have changed a lot since you were taken. Maybe not in the good, but there are more officers in the county. It's your turn to take a break while we (LEO's) and your decendents take the shift.

Sheriff Feeley,
On today, the 94th anniversary of your murder, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Culberson County. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deeepest sympathy. A $50 dollar fine? It's real disgusting how politicians always seem to be able to get away with stuff. Hopefully your murderer is paying for his actions now.
