Dickey, I think of you often, especially now when the holidays roll around. Well Max had passed last year and now the three Max (Bandy), Shawn (Bandy, KIA Detroit) and you are all together. We all toast you (Doc, Jeep, Joker and me Bosco) at hunt camp and tell Dickey V stories, you were a ball. Say hey to Max & Shawn & be seeing ya all soon........

Dick we have a special kinship with Shawn. You were my partner in 1 IOS working boosters and we worked together in Armed Robbery. We shared some after work drinks and you and I and Shawn lived together. We were both Vietnam veterans and loved the work we did. Even continuing with different police departments after we left Detroit. I think about you a lot along with the other 42 officers who died while I worked in Detroit. I know that you and my son are watching over the rest of us.

Remembering you and our friendship this week of the Memorial in DC. If we could bs and have a smoke again behind the station, nothing would make me happier. I missed it all but I don't miss thinking and praying for your family. You are not forgotten, my friend.

Dickie, think about you often, what a great crew we had at ARU and all the laughs we had along the way. You were a great Cop, neighbor, friend, and inspiration to a lot of people, you are truly missed!

Richard, you are in my thoughts and prayers everyday. Thank you for all the life lessons you have taught me(even the one when i was caught shop lifting at 15 and i tried to use your name. Unknown to me they called you and you told them to teach me a lesson and they proceeded to take me in to the station finger print me, take my mug shots, and scare the crap out of me! My mom just told me a few years ago that they called you and they only took me in and did all that because you asked them to teach me a lesson). You were an amazing role model in my life and appreciate everything you did for me! I miss you very much and know you are looking out for me from up above!!! I love you!!!!!

Dear Dick: I never worked with you, but I had known you for years from the hallways of police headquarters. I can never remember seeing you without a big smile, and a friendly greeting. Many of my friends from the D.P.D. have told me what a good cop you were. Your watch ended nine years ago, and you are remembered by many. You are a hero. Rest in peace.

Thinking of your loved ones today and everyday. I know the daily struggles they face without you and the terrible pain within their hearts. God, wrap your loving arms around them and help them with their grief and let them feel your presence.
Your sacrifice has not been forgotten.

-I AM A WARRIOR
by Jon F. Hooper

I stand with God. I fight not for glory or fame,
For they are momentary.
I fight for those who can't.
I fight for Justice.
I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden.
And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets,
For I serve to protect the innocent.
It matters not where or when,
For evil knows no boundaries.
Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny,
I will not flee.
Justice is my weapon.
Faith is my shield.
Hope is my armor.
Cry not at my passing,
For it was my Honor to fight for you.
Shed not tears of sorrow,
But tears of joy,
For now,
I stand with God.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Today's her day. You would be so proud. I am. I wish you could have stuck around to see her take the oath. I know your watching. Keep her safe for me and save me a seat next to you and the other guys.

Six years have passed and you have not been forgotten by those that love you nor has the Family Blue forgotten you. You are a true hero and heroes never die. Continue to keep watch over your loved ones. I salute you for the long and dedicated career you gave to law enforcement and the communities you served.

It has almost been another year since you have left this earth. Sometimes I feel your presence and I am so at peace!!! Other times, I miss you so much I can hardly stand it! My prayers continue and my heart longs to see you again.
Godspeed and pray that we can all be "friends" in heaven-someday. CCM
