Willie, It has been a long time since you left. I just learned about it last night from Andraus. Your sense of humor was for real and I will never forget the night you taught me how to dance at Ft. Drum. Rest in Peace.

Uncle, you are my hero. I am applying for the police academy now. Yes at OPD, I will never be scared to be out there because I know every second of every day you will watch over me with God. It comforts me to know that the same streets I will be protecting are the same streets you were on. The stories of you and my dad are what inspired me to be a police officer and I love you so much. I still remember the day I was baptized and you and I went to Walmart and you got me anything I wanted (as always). You are one of my biggest role models in life and have helped me through many difficult times. I hope you always protect my dad and I through all things we do. I love you Uncle Willie my God Father and hero.

Detective Wilkins,

When I heard about your passing years ago I was shocked. I couldn't believe it. I remember you helped me and a friend out one night when we were in Oakland and some guys were messing with us. In the wake of what is going on in the world, my thoughts went back to you and how much you helped us that night, and how friendly you were when we would see you when we were out and about. Always making sure we were staying safe. We were just young kids at the time, and you could tell that you cared. Thank you for your service. You are not forgotten.

Oh Officer Wilkins......were does time go? You were one of my heroes as i grew up. Living in oakland on 94th wasnt easy being a 14 yr old little girl walking to school. But knowing officer Wilkins would be roaming the streets gave me peace of mind. I would like to thank you for serving our country and trying to keep the drugs off the streets in Oakland. You are missed by many but never forgotten!!! May God bless you family as you are watching them from were you are....
Love and respect,

I am moved by all the messages left in remembrance of my husband Willie. He was a great husband, father, brother, son and friend. He loved his job and his family very much. I can not believe that 12 years have passed everytime I look at little Willie. January 12, 2001 little Willie was 11 months old. It was the most horrible, hardest and painful day of my life. I have learned how to exist without him but the pain of his loss never goes away. My daily prayers are for each officer and their families every day that they never know the loss of their loved one. I miss him every second of every day and my comfort is knowing that one day I'll be with him again. Thank you everyone for your kind words and well wishes.

Every year since 2009 I have made the blue ribbons with the 51 names of the Oakland Police Officers who have died in the line of duty. It is my honor to do this for the fallen officers. The ribbons hang on a tree outside the Warehouse Bar and Grill in Oakland, California for all to see the sacrifice they have made to keep us safe. God bless you all and rest in peace.

Willie,

So many years later and the pain is still the same, although I'm able to cope much better and live life.

I left OPD on 01/12/2002 but my desire to help young children still lives with the memories of you.

Until we meet again my friend.

Willie,
Hey brother you walk in and out of my memories as if you never left us here. You were one hell of a cop!!! Great locker row buddy, and you made our SWAT School courses a blast. Lots of sushi/Santa Rita runs. Then there was that warriors game..... Well you have been gone a decade and I miss you. The mischef, your crazy laugh and the knowledge that my cover was not far off!!! You had my six so many times, as I had yours. I will see you in passing amigo... I pray for your loved ones often.

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen

My heart aches for your loved ones who've missed having you in their lives.

RIP brother.

I never met you Willie. I came to OPD after you had left us. During my time at OPD I heard many good things about you. On the ten year anniversary of your End of Watch, I hope you are resting in peace. Continue to patrol the streets of heaven and I will see you one day.

Detective Wilkins, I never meant you but I worked the SFOBB for several years on the Highway Patrol in the 70's. I booked at OPD many times and always found the officers to be TOP NOTCH. Your loss is felt deeply and you will always be in our hearts. Reading the entries placed by your family and friends makes reading your story more painful. There are no officers that deserve to be lost due to any reason. Be assured that you will not be forgotten and along with my Daughter, who is a Customs and Border Protection Federal Officer and my Son, who is a Los Angeles Police Officer...God Bless you and your family...
