I REMEMBER GETTING YOUR PERSONAL EFFECTS FROM YOUR PATROL UNIT THE DAY WE LOST YOU. THERE WAS A COFFEE CUP FROM STAR BUCKS IN THE CENTER BETWEEN THE DRIVERS SEATS AND THE RT FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I REMEMBER IT WAS STILL WARM. I ALSO REMEMBER CLEANING OUT YOUR LOCKER TO GIVE THE ITEMS TO MELANIE. IT WAS ALWAYS EASY TO MAKE YOU LAUGH, AND I WILL MISS YOUR SMILE AND EASY WAY YOU HAD ABOUT YOU... I TALKED WITH YOU THE DAY BEFORE YOU WERE TAKEN, ABOUT STOPPING MY FRIEND AND HOW YOU DIDNT WRITE HIM OUT OF RESPECT FOR ME.. WHEN I TOLD MY FRIEND, AND FORMER POLICE OFFICER ABOUT YOUR DEATH, HE WAS VERY SAD. WATCH OUT FOR US DOWN HERE UNTIL WE MEET IN BRIEFING AGAIN.....

I just recently returned home from a short trip to Oceanside, California to visit family, friends and to take in the Ocean air where I was raised. My father worked as a motor officer for Oceanside P.D. from 1981 to 1989. When driving from San Diego, north on I-5, I noticed the memorial highway sign for Sean. My heart sunk and made me think of the family and friends of Sean's, and how their lives were changed so dramactically. There are no words that can be said, some people say that time heals everything, and in my eyes, it just numbs it. Time does go by... but there are good days and there are bad days. On May 31, 2004, less then 1/4 mile from my home, my father was running Code 3 to a place crash, when a truck stopped in the middle of the intersection, my father, a 28 years police veteran and also E.V.O.C. Instructor, made the necessary moves to make it around the truck, the truck though hit the tail end of his patrol car causing his car to hit 2 trees. My father died an hour later. Within the next 3 months or so, Highway 49, will be known as The Deputy David Grant Memorial Highway. My heart goes out to you, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are looking forward to Christmas and the New Year. I just wanted to find Sean's page and let you know, I saw his memorial sign and my heart goes out to you. It doesn't make any sense now.... but one day you will all be together, just like me and my Dad. Jennifer P. Grant

Melanie~
I am thinking of you and your family today as you face the 5 year marker of Sean's EOW. Although I have only known you for a short time, I can clearly see that you have been a wonderful source of strength and support for so many other police survivors in Southern California. I am certain that Sean is so very proud of you and the new life that you have made for your family.
Sincerely,

Juli Verkler
