Reflections for Police Officer Jeff Adam Moritz

Jeff Moritz was a friend to everyone he worked with. He had a great love for his family. . .he was so in love with his wife and his son. I don't know if he knew about the baby that was coming, but I do know he would have been so excited. He loved his family, his friends, his job and his community. If it weren't for Jeff helping me through college algebra, I wouldn't have my degree. I'm ever grateful to him. May his family always understand what a great man he was, a true Hero. The Moritz family is still in my prayers and always will be.

The blue lights we put out for Christmas reminds me of Jeff every year. Now so many others to add to the list. My brother Randy Weems, Tyler, so many now. When Jeff was taken, I heard the 999 over the radio. No amount of training prepares you for what that really means. Nothing prepares you for the loss.

There was a time after you were taken from us that I contemplated giving up the badge. I carried on and there is hardly a day I do not think about you and what a great friend you were. It doesn't seem like 22 years but here we are. Thanks for watching my six from up there...I will never forget.

Wow. He never even got to meet his second kid. It really makes one think about the sacrifices these men and women make to keep us safe. RIP. Gone but not forgotten.

Semper Fi brother in blue. Such a sad entry by your wife. I know you have protected your family from above. I hope your wife understands that we in law enforcement are always praying for her and your family. God bless all of you and God bless you for your service. You are never forgotten.

19 years & 2 days have gone by since you were taken from your family and our community. It still sucks, it still hurts, knowing you are not here. You were a great friend to so many, you made a difference to even more. I continue to pray for your wife, Stacy and your boys. May they always be safe. I know you watch over them. Bless you my friend. We will never forget you.

Its never a good thing when you hear that 11-99. He was there doing his job and he did it well.

Jeff was a mature and hard working seventh grade student who would do anything asked of him. He was the same as a police officer. He is remembered.

Thought about you this morning and it immediately brought tears to my eyes. You have missed so much since you have been gone, and I'm painfully sorry for that. As the years pass, I often think about how many memories and experiences we lost with your passing. But you made two beautiful boys and you were and are very loved. I'm so grateful for what you accomplished while you were here.

RIP, brother.
This brave officer's death goes to show you that there are no "cake" runs in this Job. EVERY call must be handled the same way, approached as though it could be your last.

Your son is my best friend and he is one of the best people I know he is very successful now and we are about to start college, I wish I could have met you in person but that will be in the next life.

I lived right around the corner from where this happened. It was a shock when it happened as nothing like "this" happens in our little community. It is hard to believe that it has been 16 years since this tragedy occurred. Even though I no longer live in Flagstaff, when a recent shooting (in the past few years) happened in Flag, I was reminded of Officer Moritz's shooting.

May the Moritz family find comfort in seeing that so many have fond memories this long after his death and that he is still missed!

I will never forget you friend. Every day I am reminded of you, your Mom and Dad, and your entire welcoming family. It still does not seem possible that you are really gone. I expect any time to see your smiling face, and you saying "Ya Reckin?" Which I have inadvertently adopted.
I am sure your boys are wonderful young men, like their father and also probably also giving their mother hell and grey hair. You were such a good person I am sure you would have best the best of fathers as well.
Smile down on us Jeff.

Officer Moritz: Your Sons will hold your legacy close. I will make every attempt to encourage your Department and the State of Az DOT to name a highway in Flagstaff in your honor, as you left Flagstaff with honor to meet your brothers and sister law enforcement gone on before you.

I am awfully sorry for the loss of your life in the line of duty. It's been 15 years but I remember how your death rocked our community, and saddened all of us. But it was with great pride that we upheld your name and the honorable duty for which you died. We remember you, Officer Moritz.

Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.

Jeff:
I attended your funeral and observed the wonderful photos of you growing up, as a student at NAU, and as an avid skier at the Snowbowl. In fact, I was part of the procession that proceeded to the Snowbowl for the final memorial. It seems like just yesterday when we heard members of your FPD squad share memories of you. Your smile and motivating spirit are still missed after the years have passed.

Today's murder of Flagstaff Officer Tyler Stewart brought this home to me. We had only lived in Arizona a few months when Officer Moritz was killed. He is also never to be forgotten.

Jeff was a joy to work with. Every time he came to the ER to deal with a case he always treated the ER staff and his ward with respect, humor and humanity. You could see that he really wanted to make the world a better place by the way he treated the folks he had to detain. He counseled them from the heart to make better choices and take a different path. He told them they had the power to change their lives. If only more officers could be like him. The man was a credit to his badge. The day he came in, it shredded us. Our little community went big city in that moment and we collectively lost our innocence. All these years later it still hurts but I remember the man with the soft touch and the kind eye who above all wanted to serve his community. Serve you did Jeff. Walk in beauty.
