Reflections for Police Officer Jamie Allen Roussey

Jamie,

I talked about you tonight to someone close to me. I know you're in a better place but it still stings knowing that you lived but a brief moment. In that short time you touched a lot of people in a positive way. I miss the workouts and talks. Rest easy brother. 99-02 will always be locked, cocked and ready to rock-stand proud!!!

Law Enforcement Memorial Prayer

Dear Lord, law enforcement is not an easy task to do,

Yet, there are many who choose to wear the shield.

They serve each day, to the oaths they swore are true,

Protecting and serving, a safer, better world to build.

Lord now we gather to pay our deepest honor,

To those of ours officers, killed in the line of duty.

It matters not the style of shield they wore,

Only that they served with pride, and honor.

Lord all that matters is that they were one of us,

Serving wherever needed, richest mansion to dirtiest alley.

Confident and proud, highly honored by the peoples trust,

So they carried a shield, mindful of all their sacred duties.

Lord you have called several of ours home to glory,

The race with life for them is now done.

Peace, blessed peace, in safety, forever now with Thee,

Welcome rest, now in heaven for all of eternity.

May time never erase the sacrifices that were made,

May no officer ever fall alone, to lie cold in their grave .

May those of us still serving, remember well the price they paid,

May their memories stand forever as those who went down brave.

Lord give us courage to carry on, to still live and care,

To not be vengeful or bitter, to simply trust Your word it true.

May we always cover with pride the shield we wear,

To honor all fallen officers, whom we now commend to you.

You are truly missed, my friend.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Jamie,

I had the pleasure of meeting you while serving a college internship for your father in the Baltimore City Police Department Child Abuse Unit. You were approaching graduation from the academy and I still recall how excitted you were to begin your career. I can also remember the look of pride that came over your father's face when he spoke of you. Throughout my career with the New Jersey State Police, I think about you often and the ultimate sacrifice you made. Your an inspiration to us all and you will never be forgotten.

Hi Jamie,

For some strange reason I thought of you tonight. I am your ex-sister-in-law and remembered how you would always touch my family with such a positive force. I miss you.

To Police Officer Jamie Allen Roussey and his loved ones:

On this the sixth anniversary of your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.

My heart goes out to your family. You’re in our thoughts and our prayers.

Jamie, you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

Rest in Peace, Officer Roussey. I am so saddened that you were robbed of a lifetime by this line of duty death that occurred when you were so heartbreakingly young.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Jamie gave to his community and the citizens of Maryland, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 8,2000.

My Brothers and Sisters, we have all sworn to perform our duties, impartially and without hesitation or fear. Our present duty, and though it be painful, is to pay a just and deserving tribute of honor to a Brother who has embarked upon that lone journey which leads through the valley of the great shadow into the sunlight of perpetual day and lasting tranquility.
These feeble but heart-felt words can do little more than remind us of the duty which we owe to our departed friend and colleague.
As he was ever faithful to us in the full performance of his task and the protection of those who slept, so let us be, my Brothers, faithful to him, ever zealous to protect and cherish the memory of his good deeds, forgetting his imperfections, and emblazoning his accomplishments.
As time runs on, in sun and shade, may we bear with us ever-pleasant memories of a hallowed friendship, a kindly feeling, and a deep respect for all our Brother stood for. As an indication of our regard and affection, let us pause and, in silent meditation, typify what mere words cannot express.
Let us pray:
Almighty God, be with us on this occasion. Strengthen us in a firm resolve to do right, to serve well, to be faithful to our tasks, to our community, and to our Brothers. Make us appreciative of the opportunities to do good and to lend a helping hand. Inspire us with a new devotion to fulfill the duties, which are entrusted to our keeping. May those who mourn be comforted in this sad hour, and may they be strengthened by the knowledge of Thy presence and Thy omnipotence.
May we be constantly reminded in the hours of the night, as well as in the brightness of the day, of Thy everlasting love and kindness, and may Thou guide us through this uncharted valley and bring us at last to the shore of the eternal stream, our ranks unbroken, to dwell with Thee forever more. We ask this humbly through Thy redeeming grace and power. Amen.

~Christmas In Heaven~
I've had Christmas in heaven;
A glorious, wonderful day!
I stood with saints of the ages,
Who found Christ the Truth and the Way.
I sang with the heavenly choir;
Just think! I, who longed so to sing!
And oh, what celestial music
We brought to our Savior and King!
We sang the glad songs of redemption,
How Jesus to Bethlehem came
And how they had called His name Jesus,
That all might be saved through His name.
We sang once again with the angels,
The song that they sang the blest morn,
When shepherds first heard the glad story
That Jesus, the Savior, was born.

O, Darling, I wish you had been here;
No Christmas on earth could compare
With all the rapture and glory
We witnessed in Heaven so fair.
You know how I always loved Christmas;
It seemed such a wonderful day
With all of my loved ones around me;
The children so happy and gay.

Yes, now I can see why I loved it;
And oh, what a joy it will be
When you and my loved ones are with me
To share in the glories I see.
So, Dear Ones on earth, here's my greeting;
Look up till the day dawn appears
And oh, what a Christmas awaits us,
Beyond all our partings and tears!

We ask Thy blessings and eternal rest to all our brothers and sisters
Who have sacrificed their very lives in the performance of
their duties. Give their loved ones the peace and
Strength to bear the anguish of their loss. Remove all
resentment from their hearts, knowing that eternal
peace and rest will abide their departed loved ones
forever. This we beg, Thy name forever and ever,
Amen.

Dear Officer Jamie,
You never know what directs you to a specific page sometimes but when I read how you died I knew you and my son have met by now in heaven. Matt loved his fellow brothers and sisters in blue with a passion that was amazing. Always ready to back-up, assist, work for--give his heart, time, money, and blood --didn't matter. Matt was always there for them. And always ready with a crazy joke to lighten everybodys day. I am so sorry your family has to be without their precious son. My heart breaks for all of us left here. The passion to be a police officer is a badge of honor that we hold in our hearts that have been broken by your sacrifice.
Love,

Jamie, you are a true hero and one of the nations finest. You will never be forgotten! I have met your father a few times and he is such a wonderful man. He continues to keep your name alive and reminds us all how lucky we are to have loved a police officer, even if only for a short time. Please stick with Bert up there! Although I never had the pleasure of meeting you, you sounded like such a high energy officer, exactly the way my husband was when he was your age until the day he was taken from me. Continue to watch over your family during this STILL difficult time.

Jamie - I know it's been over 4 years now since you left us. I heard about your passing via the news. What a way to hear about such a wonderful person. Believe it or not I actually went to school w/ you. You showed me my way around since I was new to the area and the school. You made me feel comfortable when I was new there. Now, I hope you are comfortable where you are. Believe it or not, I married the love of my life who is a Corporal for a local police dept.

It's such a shame that you were taken from this world so soon, but obviously God had great plans for you. I know you opened up the doors of heaven for you and showed you around just like you showed me around on my first day of high school. I'm sure by now you have made some wonderful friends. Please say hi to Duke Aaron EOW 7/20/04. He was from my husbands department. He's another Hero that put his life on the line and suffered the ultimate consequence. But, he's a great guy. Wish him a Merry Christmas from Ofc. Rabe and his wife.

Rest easy my friend. Until we meet again and you can show me around the streets of heaven.
With Love

TO ONE OF THE FINEST OFFICERS I NEVER HAD THE PLEASURE TO MEET, GOD BLESS, REST IN PEACE.

DET. D.A. GREENE
BALTIMORE CITY POLICE DEPT.

January 21, 2004

As I awoke by the morning light,

The news revealed a tragic site.

A police jeep all a smash,

a young cop was killed in the crash.

Tears rolled down my face as I saw who

Hysterically crying I screamed "NOT YOU!"

My body began to shiver and shake,

I weeped and thought this must be a mistake.

I was in nothing more then denial,

I yearned to see his charming smile.

As days go on and nights fly by

My despondent heart cries "why'd he die?"

Mr. Fred, Mrs. Char, Connie, Chris, David and Laura:

My heart goes to out to all of you. You all are really looking up to god in this and know that Jamie is safe with him. only a family as strong as yours could get through this the way you are.

The most wonderful person to enter my life.  That is what I think of when I think about Jamie.  He was truly a wonderful man and he will be missed forever.  Jamie always knew how to make me smile and laugh.  He showed me what true love was, and how it felt to be loved.  The bond that Jamie had with his family was truly remarkable, he really loved their company.  Jamie was very fun loving.  He never had a care in the world, just to live life as a Baltimore City Police Officer.  He accomplished his goals, and for that I am very proud of him, and very proud to call myself his girlfriend.  Jamie and I shared a unique bond that will never be broken.  I find it very hard to think about life without him, yet everyday I imagine him there with me and it's a little easier to get through that day.  There is not enough time or words that I can say that describe my love for this remarkable man that died for Baltimore City doing the career that he loved !!!  I love you always.
