Your heroism and service is honored today, the tenth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Rest In Peace.

To your family: I understand the meaning of lives forever altered and know that the hurt of losing a beloved never goes away...the pain and pride are forever. I pray for your solace.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Brian,

You are going to be missed by many, I served with you at Jackson up until you left, I heard about your passing while in Korea in 1999 and it came as much to me a surprise. Know that there are loved ones here to keep your memory alive and i pray for you and you family esp.. your baby girl everyday. I ONLY KNEW BRIAN FOR A SHORT TIME WHEN HE CAME TO WORK WITH US, BUT I COULD TELL IMMEDIATELY THAT HE HAD APASSION FOR THE JOB, AND A TRUE DESIRE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I WAS WITH BRIAN WHEN HE PASSED AWAY, TRYING TO COMFORT AND URGE HIM TO KEEP FIGHTING, BUT I GUESS HE HAD A MORE IMPORTANT CALL TO ANSWER. Brian was/is a great guy. Regardless of who you were he always showed you respect. My dad and I were his nemesis in football, we the Packers, him the Chiefs. We had great times together and seeing his picture now really strikes me hard. I know he is watching his son everyday and I hope God protects him so one day he too can protect and serve.

I trained Brian at Ft Jackson SC when he first became a MP. We were on the same squad for a while and then I went to Traffic. About a year later he came to Traffic and I had the pleasure of training him again. We lived in the same barracks for about two years. We party together off duty and fought side by side on duty. I saw Brian grow from a kid into a man. He will be missed forever. I can not express in words what it means to lose somebody you spent many hours in a car with, let alone lived with off duty. I am proud to have served with Brian.

I had an opportunity to work with Brian at Ft. Jackson as an MP. Brian was a very professional officer and a good friend. Brian had a great sense of humor and always had a smile on his face. Brian was a vigilant officer and had the love for the job that it takes to be a good cop. Even though I lost contact with Brian after I left the Army, I will miss him dearly as I am sure his other comrad's will.
