Dear Bob, I want you to know that you are missed by me and so many. I went to Stewartsville the day of your funeral and watched as the procession went by. Many cars were parked all along 36 highway, and at every little town along the way, as were fire trucks, ambulances and many others. Hundreds of cars were in the procession, and airplanes overhead. I cried like a baby as I watched in awe. I have never seen anything like it. The total outpouring of love and respect for you touched my heart deeply. You deserved it all, and more. You were so kind to me and I will never forget that. I take the King City exit off I-29 several times each week now, and I think of you each time and send up a little prayer for you. God bless you and keep you close to Him, until we meet again.

My God, Trooper, you fought a great fight on that fateful day. I had never heard of your death before I just read it on this website. I thank and commend you on your bravery and will to survive. You, sir, are a true hero. I wish that I had been there with you on that fateful day-we would have taken this animal down together, or I would have fallen beside you while trying. I once found myself in a similar situation to this, and by the grace of God, my fortune was not as bad as yours was. I survived. And through me and all of your brothers who survive in blue nationwide, we will continue your fight against evil and lay our own lives on the line forever, just like you did.

My deepest thoughts go to your family, and may they always be kept in God's graces. Even after all these years, I guarantee you that your family and close co-workers think of you constantly and that feeling of pride and love well up inside of them for the true hero that you were and always will be.

Salute.

Police Corporal from Michigan

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I met Bob on our first day at CMSU. He moved in across the hall from me in Foster Knox Hall. We had a lot of good times together. It was easy with his wonderful sense of humor and whimsey. I moved away and lost touch after college. I was stunned yesterday when I ran a search on his name and learned what happened. I mourn the loss of this good man. He deserved friendship and respect, not this. I am proud and saddened to have known him as a friend and hero.

Bob,
Thank you for your service to our community. Although I only had the chance to work calls with you a few times, you always left an impression. Your spirit will never be forgotten.

Not a day goes by that I don't think about that night. October 6, 1999, will forever be burnt into my memory. That is the day I lost a friend. The call went out -- I-29 North of the city, a trooper has been shot. I had just heard you and Dale talking on the radio. It was hard to beleive what the dispatcher had just said, but reality sank in fast when I arrived on the scene. You were one of the best I have known, it was a pleasure knowing and working with you.

My family and I send our prayers to the Kimberling family. To my fallen brother...rest in peace.

police officer B. Pegg
KCPD MO

Bob,

I first met you when you were assigned to Maysville. I was just a young foolish kid, but you inspired me to change my ways and make something of my life. You gave me the inspiration to go into the law enforcement field. For this I thank you. You touched so many lives, and inspired many, not only at MSHP but everywere you went.

Now you walk the streets of heaven and are more than just a memory.

I will never forget the night of Oct 6th. Once again in less than a year I was paged and told of the death of another friend, and needed to come to work. I will never forget the lump in my throat and the aching heart I felt, knowing another brave sole had laid down his life to make the world a safer place.

I know you are in heaven, with Brad, watching over us each and every day. You smile down upon us and guide us, while we patrol the streets and highways.

Thank you for the friendship, if I could only live as you have, with courage, honor and respect for all mankind, then I will know the glory of life.

Sgt Eric Protzman
St. Joseph Police Department

You will be missed by all. My prayers will always be with you and your family.

Sgt. Kimberling was the epitome of a trooper. When I started in law enforcement, he was who I thought of when I thought of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. I can't recall ever meeting a more professional officer and he was always helpful if you needed something. Bob, you and your family will always be in my prayers

God Bless you 511

Sgt. Kimberling:

I feverishly hope that the tragedy that catapulted St. Joseph into yet another mourning period is the last one I ever have to see. I know that it is not possible to prevent all tragedies, but I truly believe St. Joseph has truly suffered enough tragedy in the last eleven months. I also pray everyday that there will be no more, just as I have prayed for the last eleven months.

For you, my dear Fallen Officer, have opened a wound in the hearts and souls of the good citizens of St. Joseph and the surrounding areas, not of your own volitions, but through the senseless act of others. We also know that we as a community will miss you, but the worst tragedy is for your family who will never be able to hear your voice or see you smile, much less ever feel the reassurance of hope in your embrace. They have truly suffered the most,we must now do our part to support your family, for you.

I personally had never met you, yet I feel I know you because of the impact you had on the other officers in the region. I also am beginning to understand more and more everyday the bond one brother in blue feels for another brother in blue, with your passing there is another chink in that big blue wall that can never be filled in the hearts of many. I always heard thst you were a decent and kind man, that the younger officers admired, now I wish I could've known the man, and not just know the legend of the man.

I can only hope that as you walk your beat in Heaven, you take the time to stop and guide the way for the rookie officers, still left here on Earth, to carryon the Good Fight for you.
Rest In Peace, for you served your time in Hell and now you may walk the easy beat of Heaven.
