Your heroism and service is honored today, the 13th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your daughter Amanda and your friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections.

Dad, this weekend was your birthday! I did better this year than most others. We enjoyed watching your favorite movie Blackbeard’s Ghost. I can’t help but wonder how much hair you would still have left or if it would all be gone by now. I think about what you would like for my coming up wedding and what colors you always looked good in. So I picked green and blue. I think of you every day and miss you very much. You left a greatness behind that can never be replaced, however with the greatness you have made many lives better and much happier. I find peace knowing you are in a better place.

To my DAD.
I remember you every day. How you always encouraged me and was proud in everything I accomplished the sky was my limits in your eyes all I had to do is work for it. I remember you cheating at every game you could get your hands and being one of the funniest people to watch while playing any video game, I also know you were a pin ball champ (I dont know how but I am sure you cheated somehow). You did not like camping but loved movies ice cream and playing jokes on anyone that was around you. For an awkward little girl who had very little faith in herself you were the best! I live my life knowing I have made you proud and that I am a reflection of you. I miss you every day but remember your strength and your ever living love of everyone in your life and I live every day hoping that I find the same strength and kindness you encompassed in your life.

Hey buddy,
I sure miss the good times we shared. I signed up for the motor unit because of you. I will never forget the Wednesday before (last time I saw you.) You and Chris came up to motor school to spend the day with me. We had a blast running the courses and riding the bikes hard like we all love to do. I was honored to have served with you and to have called you my friend. Rest in piece brother you will never be forgotten!

I met Ron when he was a DARE Officer, I was a high school student working on my community service for graduation. In the few days I spent with him, talking with elementary school students and just chatting in the van between stops, Ron struck me as someone who loved his job. He enjoyed working with kids, he enjoyed law enforcement and every day brought that passion to his job.
I'm still trying to find my passion, but I will not stop until I find it, thanks to Ron's influence.

Deputy King - I'm a newer resident of Douglas County. I've see your name in front of the Robt. A Chritiansen Justice Center. Thanks for your service to both the people of Douglas County and the State of Colorado. I stood in the State Assembly hall, yesterday, when your name was read off during a proclamation for mext month's Peace Officer's Memorial Week and Day. We will wear our mourning bands for you and the 250 other brother and sisters. May God grant you eternal rest and may his perpetual light shine upon you.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I have been in law enforcement 16 years and the last 6 with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. When arrived I heard great things that Ron was involved in the community and his love children. As I have felt the same my self and tried to follow in his foot steps. This year I was honored with the "Ron King" award for my community service with youth. Thank You Ron for leading the way. AS a veteran of law enforcement for 39 years, people come and go, but Ron was one of those officers that made a lasting impression. He always was fun to be with, but was always a professional. Loosing Ron was, without question, one of the worst days in my professional career and a great loss to our agency. I was proud to be his boss and his friend.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to This Officer, as well as the Family, Friends, Department and Community. I was served with the Douglas County Sheriff in Colorado before returning to Oregon.

This is a loss that will never be forgotten. Hours will turn into days, days turn into weeks, weeks into months and months into years but, the difference that these officers have made will last forever.

We lost Our Deputy Morris Taylor on September 14, 2002. When he joined the other Angels in Blue.
