I met Cory through the Monroe County Sheriff's Reserve. .I issued his probationary uniforms to him for the unit and it seemed like the same week he returned them and said he had been accepted to I.S.P. and was going to the academy ,I shook his hand and congratulated him.He was a fine person, every time I see a Troopers car memories are brought back..RIP Trooper Elson you'll not be forgotten

It's been too long since i have last talked to you. A lot has changed since you left us. But becuase of you, your fellow officers are safer. We talk about what happened to you and how we should never let down our guard. Please keep watching over us. Tell my mom, I miss her.

My dad was a senior trooper when this happened. It was Easter Sunday, we were on spring break in Texas. Mom called the post to let them know dad had a minor heart attack that morning, and then was informed by one of the corporals that Cory was killed earlier and another trooper's dad had passed as a result of a severe anxiety attack due to the incident. It still makes me cry when I think of it. God bless you Cory.

Cory,

I have thought of you and the other Brothers and Sisters often. You were great to know your short time at D22. You were fun to train. I no longer live in Indiana and but still think of your sense of humor. I'm sorry,
Your Brother in Christ

I did not know Cory, but when he was killed I lived in Berne, Indiana, just down the road from Decatur.
This tragedy has never left me, and I want the family to know that we still reflect upon that day and lift you in prayer... now and always. RIP Trooper Elson.
