Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Trooper James Bradford-Jean Crooks

Rest in peace, Sir! You are not forgotten.

Police Officer

March 7, 2006

Your incident is helping to save lives, as we all had you in mind while training at the academy...to be the best, safest Troopers that we could be. Thank you for your service and sacrifice, and just know that you are still saving lives every day.

Former Florida Highway patrol Trooper

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Will never forget the man that would not quit at the academy no matter how difficult it was. He gave 100% even when being told to quit by a instructor. You will never be forgotten.

Brad,
You're not forgotten ...

I look back over the years and remember the academy, it was tough, demanding and above all challenging. I also remember looking at a man doing push-ups and giving it everything he had dispite a drill instructor telling him to just quit. But the most thing I remember was hearing that man tell the instructor " I am not going to quit, not for you or anyone else". I'll never forget those words spoken from a man who was determined never to qiut, nor will forget the man who spoke them. Your always remembered Crooks.

End of watch
tears and
ticking clocks
time does not still
months turn to years
and melt into decades

Pain fades but is always
there
you do return
in the
Sun rise
and
brids songs

End of watch
but in
our hearts
everlasting
in every part
we
bring you along
Time moves on
nothing is still
only the will
of us
End of watch

Brad, my dear boy.I know how good a boy you were, and how good a man you became. This was so very painful for me because I knew you were one of the good ones.
My heart thinks of you every year on my birthday, and I send a silent prayer for your mama and daddy.
Now that I am an "officer" I keep your picture on my console and remember that there are men and women out there for me to take care of, that mean something to someone out there just like you did.

The loss of Brad changed my life forever. For the many who unfortunately did not get the opportunity to meet him, I would like to share what a wonderful man he was. Brad did touch so many lives including those of my second grade students.

Brad was more than a Trooper; he was the man I was going to marry and spend the rest of my life with. Brad and I knew that no one or anything would ever separate us except death. And in the end that is what did. Everyday Brad and I told each other how much we loved one another. We shared our dreams and lived everyday thankful for one another. Brad and I shared a love that was special and one that I will never forget.

As the years go on, I will always remember the love that Brad and I shared and how special it was. I know that he will hold a special place in my heart for the rest of my life. Our love may change, but it will never die.

Three officers down

put your knee to the ground.

Three officers down

while we worked safe and sound.

Three officers down

no one makes a sound.

Three officers down

three families tears soak the ground.

Three officers down

put your knee down

In a final salute to the heros'.

Three officers down

may they sleep safe and sound

as their bodies are given now

to this hallowed ground.

Their spirits comfort now

the youngest victim of a grieving town.
