Reflections for Detention Officer Casey Ryan Harmon
Thinking of Casey and his family today. I am thinking of the sacrifice Casey and his family have made for their community. I am thinking of the love his family has for him and the hurt they feel and of the magnitute of thier loss. Rest In Peace, Casey. I am so sorry your were robbed of your life.
In California, I continue to fight to see that the sentences of juveniles who murdered our beloved officers are not modified by the national movement to abolish these sentences.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 11th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Your friends have left such wonderful reflections for you. I can see that you were an amazing young man who had a positive impact on so many people and that you are loved and missed by so many. Your family must have been proud that you continued their legacy of protecting and serving although I know their lives were forever altered 11 years ago. All of these murders are senseless, but yours in one of the most senseless I have read about. Your family is in my heart's embrace today.
Rest In Peace, Casey. You will always be honored and revered.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

What can I say but this guy, he was awsom! This officer touched everyones lifes that he came in contact with, and even had such an impact, that others followed him in Law enforcement or in the Fireman fields. I met Casey when I first went into Law Enforcement @ West Point Police Dept under my Father, the Asst. Chief & Chief Ladd's adminstration, and when I worked for MHP in Troop G district. I remember Casey most for making you laugh, no matter what kind of day you were having, he just had one of those silly, pleasant personalities. Like someone else said on his site, he didn't just laugh, he laughed with his whole body! He was dispatching at Chickasaw SO and would "prank" call me when I was having a busy night, he would always listen to me on the scanner, and when he knew it was getting hetic, he would pick up the phone and call me, he could always make me laugh! Casey's dream was to become a Trooper with MHP, and if his life would not have been taken in the line of duty, there is no doubt I would be listening to him on the scanner now. He would have made a hell of a Trooper! The coward that took his life, it was so senseless, he was on his way out of JDC @ the time, I hope he reaps what he sowed for what he did to this fine, young officer. Casey, you show so much in your nephew, Andy's son, and you will ALWAYS hold a place in my heart, and of anyone that knew you and had the pleasure of working with you. You will always be missed by your family and freinds. I can still hear you laughing...Rest in peace, my law enforcement brother in gold and green, Rest in peace! I know you are still walking the beat!

I just happened upon this page today and thought that I would leave a few thoughts about Casey as well. I am not and will never be involved in the law enforcement community ... but have a tremendous respect for the work with which they are involved. My grandfather, uncle, and my cousins all choose law enforcement as a career. I knew Casey his entire life. We are cousins through blood but were friends through choice. I am fortunate in the fact that I have so many fond memories and funny pictures of us growing up to remember him. He was definately one of a kind! I see a lot of him in his brother's children and even in my own nephew who has his talent for sound effects. I love you Casey and I miss you.

I met Casey through his daddy and brothers while working for the city of Okolona. What a tremendous impact Casey had on people. I will never forget his wonderful laugh. It was one of a kind. When I heard of the shooting I could not imagine anything bad happening to Casey. To be around Casey was to have fun. Casey loved law-enforcement from an early age riding along with his dad who served as Coroner and Deputy for many years with Chickasaw County. Casey died doing what he loved best. Casey will always have a special place in my heart. My daughter Beth and I loved him dearly.

There are no words that can be expressed on any page to say how we all feel. Casey was my age, and with him we began the Houston Volunteer Fire Explorers.I also spent a lot of time with him while he was working the jail in Chickasaw. Since his death I have decided to go into law Enforcement full time. Right now I am a reserve deputy with Chickasaw, but soon I hope to be with a federal agency. Knowing that I will be doing what Casey wanted to do his entire life is a joy to me. Casey will always be in my thoughts, and I am so thankful for all the good memories I have.
Reserve Deputy Pryor Landrum

To many people Casey was a friend to some he was more than that he was like a brother and a hero. Casey introduced me to the fire service and law enforcement when I was seventeen, it was there I learned that Casey was much more than normal teenager who liked lights and sirens. Casey had earned the respect of men twenty years older than him through hard work and self dedication. Casey a seventeen year old kid had already set the example for another seventeen year old. Today am a full-time firefighter and a reserve deputy. Casey never got the opportunity to see me in the career that I have chosen. I never got a chance to tell Casey "thank you" for being the example in my life.
"THANK YOU CASEY"

Casey, you are sadly missed.

Casey's grandfather was a chief deputy for Chickasaw County Ms., Casey's father was a deputy , Casey's two brothers are still will the same department now. Casey's goal always was to be in law enforcement, and his goal was to join the Mississippi Highway patrol. I had the honor to work on the rode with Casey and to work with him as a fellow officer and a friend as well. Casey was dedicated and all though he was tough on law breakers, he was unusually compassionate to the needs of the public. Casey was willing to go the exact step to help people in trouble. Casey was not only a good cop, he was a good person. How can I said all of this about such a young officer, I not only worked with him on the road, but I'm also his father. Casey, we miss you, but will never forget you.
Deputy John Harmon
Chickasaw Sheriff's Department (Ret)
I met Casey as a police explorer with the Tupelo Police Department in Tupelo, Mississippi. Casey and I quickly became good friends and were together both on and off duty. We had good times and bad times, but most of all, he was a wonderful friend and partner. Casey was never afraid to stand up for what he thought was right and was always ready to help someone in need. Casey was formerly a dispatcher and a volunteer firefighter in Houston and Okolona, Mississippi. Casey was dedicated to public service and, although the pain will always be present, he died doing what he loved: Law Enforcement.

I met Casey when he was a Dispatcher for Okolona Police Department. He was one of the kindest most funny people I had ever met. He could make anyone and everyone laugh and usually did when the opportunity arose. He did not just laugh with a smile on his face, he laughed with his whole body. He was a great man and one of the best friends I ever had. He always wanted to be in Law Enforcement and follow in the footsteps of his father and brothers. He was a volunteer Fireman, Dispatcher and a great friend to everyone. All of us in his Law Enforcement Family miss him more than any words can say. His death left a void in my heart and it did in his family and anyone who ever knew him. He will always be remembered and missed. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of him and remember how he looked sitting behind that desk at Okolona Police Department. He always had a smile on his face and a gleam in his eye. I love you Casey and so does everyone you ever met or knew. You were the best.
