Not a day goes by that I don't think about you or tell a story that happened to to you and me. Just the other day I was telling my wife the story of our a eight grade play that we put on. The Screenplay was approved by the principal then quickly changed before you went on... Of course she had no idea nor did the 250 people watching what was about to happen. I'm sure that we offended a few people that day, but it was all in good fun. Let's just say when you made your entrance the play was quickly over and we were drug into the principals office. You are missed buddy, I know you heard me telling this story the other night too.

It took a long time to be able to deal with this. You where taken on my birthday and so forever will I remember you leaving this world. I take comfort in knowing you are one of Gods wonderful angels. You look down on all of us who love and miss you still to this day. I feel so much sorrow for your family, but I know your family has their faith to lean on and that they have each other to turn to. To them, I say how sorry I am for your loss. May you never be forgotten Tommy.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Tommy,

It seems like just yesterday I was calling you "Tipper" and asking you who is your favorite Aunt. I still miss you every day! I've had dreams about you and I know in my heart that you have come to visit me in those dreams. I wish you would visit me more often. Your mom and I talk about you all the time. She still misses you so much too! Please watch over grandpa right now. It's not time for him to visit you yet. I Love you so much and miss you even more.

Love, Aunt Cathy

Tommy and I grew up together, pretending we were cops and soldiers fighting the "bad guys" all up and down Hobkirk Drive. We grew up and decided to do it for real, Tommy going on to become one of St. Louis' finest and I on to become a U. S. Marine. His sacrifice in the quest of selfless service to others stays with me wherever I go. It is a constant reminder to me that there are good people among us who devote their lives to something greater than our own personal safety. Thanks Tom for the camaraderie as a young boy and the inspiration to make our boyhood fantasies a lifestyle. You'll be missed long after we're all gone, friend. God Bless...

I always think about Tom and the other officers I knew that lost their lives in the line of duty. Tom was a fine officer that loved his job and always gave his best. I know that if there is a Heaven, Tom is happily riding horses there.
God Bless!

December 5, 1997, it seems so long ago, but like yesterday for your family.

Our thoughts and prayers are today, and aways with you and your family. Keep Tom safe while he is watching the back door.

May god protect those of us who protect.

Tell Scott we said his and we love him and miss him.

December 5, 1997 was a sad day in Law Enforcement. St. Louis County and Cincinnati lost a total of 3 officers in the line of duty. Officer Smith, you, Dan Pope and Ron Jeter are heros who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that the citizens of St. Louis and Cincinnati could be safe. What else can I say but thank you.

Tom, I know you watched over me during my accident. I have no doubt that you help lift me up over the hood of the car. Thank you for letting me come home to my family that night. Please continue to look out for me and YOUR fellow officers. Even though I have told him, can you make sure that your boss up there knows how thankful I am to have another chance. Love ya & miss ya.
