Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Dewey Joe Sherbo, III

Joe,

Dennis and I were talking about you this week. It seems like yesterday that you left us to patrol heaven. I could close my eyes and picture you and Mike in the precinct and as John and I walk in you would say, "Mikoooooooooooo".

Every time I see Dennis I ask for the kids. He says they are getting big and making you proud. I pass by the park often and talk to you, wishing I hadn't taken the night off. We would have been teamed up together and who knows, things could have turned out differently.

God bless you brother.

Till we stand roll call together once again...

To the family and friends of this brave officer. I have just completed the new web site for the Fraternal Order of Police Newark Lodge#12 and would like to take a moment to thank all of these men for giving me one of the most spiritual experiences in my life. I felt that each and every one of these officers were at my side guiding me to the completion of the sites "In Memory Of..." page. God Bless and Thank You!

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Today, November 9, 2003 we dedicated the shift to the memory of P.O. Dewey Joe Sherbo III who died on this date six years ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Officer Sherbo's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Joe,

I never got to tell you how much I admired what you had inside you, that made you a fantastic cop. I miss the craziness, the advice.

I know you are in a better place and are looking down upon all who new you and loved you. I know that you are protecting them the same way you did when you were here with us.

God bless you Joe

We graduated together in the 102nd Recruit Class, Platoon B. You are often mentioned, often thought about and never forgotten.

I'm sorry to hear of Police Officer Sherbo's death. He was one of the few in our society who tried to put a stop to people who wrecklessly drive on our roads, and other criminals that attack innocent people. I hope that his family is doing well after all these years. Stay strong and remember what a great life he lived, in the short time that he was here. It would have been nice if he lived to be old and tell stories of being an officer, but you have his story to tell and the pride that he gave you. Rest well, Officer Sherbo, you've earned your place behind heaven's gates.

October 1, 2002... I heard about the death of this officer while watching Police Force on The Learning Channel. The officers of the Newark Police dept. rememembered Officer Sherbo and took the camera crew to the accident scene where they have made a memorial. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this fallen hero. God bless.
