Hey Mike,
One thought leads to another and I found myself remembering IOOF Girls Club and Boys Club as teenagers. Your gf Amy and your hilarious brother Stevie (my crush). I googled, and was saddened by this news. Your life was short, but you are remembered fondly.

Mike,
There's not a day goes by that I don't think about you or that night. Still regrets that I couldn't do more and that I wasn't there fast enough to stop it all from happening. It seems like yesterday, the sounds, the images, the cold, the helplessness to help you pull through. You will.never be forgotten.

Deputy Hoenig , I lived on Capistrano Ave where the crime occurred. I cry till this day because we saw you and we we're scared and couldn't help you. You are never forgotten. My children and I let balloons go for your memory. My love and support for law enforcement is forever strong. Thank you for all that you did. You're a hero...xo

Hi ya Mike,
Thinking bout you and all those that have gone on to heaven. Hoping all is cool.
My last pup passed over to the rainbow bridge and I hope she met you and the gang. Hoping she didn't bark too much. By now I'm sure you have met my old man and hope you guys are hanging out and perhaps doing some fishing. Tell Scooby he's a butthead and I miss him too. Can still hear his laugh. Peace my brothers and my hubby. Until we see each other again. Hey Steve, if you're reading this.. Hang in there bro.

I came on to the department a few years after your passing. I remember reading about that night and meeting some of those who know you and worked on the investigation. I often thought about that night when I eventually made it to patrol. I always use your sacrifice as a teaching tool for my trainees when I made TO.....my way of making sure you are not forgotten. In a way, its like you still look over us after your EOW. God bless.

To my dear friend Mike,

The 18-year anniversary of your death is approaching...it seems just like yesterday some days and a lifetime ago other days. I have so many fond memories of our teen years and beyond. You taught me how to drive a stick shift and were so patient as I stalled it over and over:-)
So many memories to keep my heart warm while missing you.
Know that you are never forgotten and that my soul aches for the ultimate sacrifice you made.

Hello Mike,

To All,

I knew Mike through his brother Steve. Kindness was in the Hoenig blood, and then there was the humor side of them as well. I remember when this first happened, it sickened me to knoe that there are such animals out there that really exist.
I just wanted to say that I will never forget Mike and that smile while attending High school with him and Steve.

RIP and look after your family

Mike, it's Mitch Jones. Dave's doing fine, he's finished school and finding his way in life. We speak occasionally via email, and he always invites my family and up to spend a little time. I saw JD a few weeks ago, he looks the same. I know your Dad's with you now, so you have someone to fish with. Always know we will never forget you, and the sacrifice you made.
