Reflections for Patrolman Richard Lewis Cash

I cannot believe how long you have been gone. I miss you man!

Rick,
We graduated from HCHS together. I was in the Coast Guard Active Duty when I heard the news all the way in California. I was extremely saddened not to be able to attend your funeral. Your sacrifice inspired me to become a police officer. It is hard to believe it has been 11 years. My thoughts are on you always my brother.

I went to the Police Academy with Rick. He was a very pleasant person and I think of him often, especially when I look at our class photo. I do not think that there was a nicer guy in that class. He was a true gentleman.

God bless his family and his Department.

Ricky, I think back now over ten years ago when we were cooking out at your house. I remember when you told me you were going to work for Forest Park P.D. I remember watching the news report on the morning of 1-3-96 as I fell on my knees unable to believe what I was hearing. I,ve spent the last decade as a career firefighter/paramedic. I married a wonderful girl that puts up with me. I try not to think about your funeral. Instead I try to remember the good times we had together as friends. The wife, kids and myself sleep safe knowing that you are still on patrol. I miss you buddy. Now and always. God bless.

A decade has passed since your tour of duty ended but you have not been forgotten by those that love you nor will the Blue Family ever let that happen. Keep watch over your loved ones and those still out on patrol guarding the Thin Blue Line. You are a true hero and heroes never die.

Hi Ricky! The strangest thing happened last night while I was sleeping.I was talking to Mama and she was telling me how you use to stop by and check on her all the time and how much she loved you as we all do.When I came to the computer this morning then this sight just came to my mind(did not even know it was here) so I came to it.I just want you to know that your family loves and misses you very much.Lamar and Judy are super people and I know they were so very, very proud of you.You are with your grandparents now and watching over your family.I Love You Ricky and you will NEVER be forgotten.Aunt Jackie

SIR,

Everytime I walk into the Department I salute your memorial. You have made the ultimate sacrifice doing a job only a select few can do. Now you are employed by GOD to watch over us, because you are truly Forest Park PD's angel. My goal is to serve as you did and do it honorably and proudly everyday just like you did. Blessings

Hey Rick, It seems like yesterday that the three amigos were roommates and talking about being police officers. Charles did an outstanding job just like you and if I can be half the officer you are that will be an accomplishment.

Officer Cash,
I never meet you, but you see you are a hero. I join the Army many years (1976) before you became a police officer, and retired the month after your death. In the years that have passed each time I come home I stop by the site of your traffic stop check on the marker and ask why, I always get the same answer. With my mother living seconds from there I only wish I could respond to your 10-33. Rest in peace sir, you may be gone but know you will never be forgotten.

Ricky,
Its been almost ten years, but it sure doesn't seem like it. Your smile and your chuckle will never be forgotten. I remember the morning you left us as being the most difficult one many of us has ever experienced, I guess thats becaused you touched all of us so much.
I saw your son for the first time in years a short time ago, and I know how proud you must be - he is a nice young man.
You continue to change peoples' lives for the better in ways you couldn't imagine.
Remember the possible burglary call? I still smile when I see you become one with that pole when the sleeping dog awoke.
Thank you Ricky, I will never forget you!

Cash I had to put the black band on my badge again for another partner. I still think of you and remember how good we worked together. Of course you worked well with everyone. A big smile comes over my face when I remember the theft call at the elementary school. I just chuckle and grin. Miss you buddy.

Well brother what can I say. As a new member of the APD, I feel like after reading your story this could have happened to me. Keep your watch in heavens streets, you've done your time in hell.

Ricky,
Hey, did you see the title? Lieutenant, who would have thought. I can still remember the first night I rode with my FTO and we were running through the dark woods. I was thinking to myself, what did I get myself into? I just want to thank you for being that FTO. On the night you left us as I heard the help call and was responding to the scene I kept thinking it's Ricky! I also can remember thinking everything will be ok. Once I arrived I knew things had changed. After it was all over I almost left policing. As you know I had only been released from FTO status a short time. But, I wondered what you would you have done, if it were me instead of you? I know I made the same choice you would have! I think of you often and will continue to keep up the good fight!
