Your heroism and service is honored today, the 90th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Based on the 1920 U.S. Census report, Otto A. Balk was 31 at the time of his death. His wife, Leona S. Balk was 23, and they had one daughter, Marjorie, 4 years old. The family was living at 1374 Wabash. The 1930 census shows Leona as a widow, and living at 10061 Monica with her daughter. A check of the SSDI shows Leona died in January of 1988 in Clawson, Michigan. She never did re-marry.
They are not forgotten.

No officer killed in the line of duty should be without reflection. It is an honor to be the first, and I salute you this day, the anniversary of your death. Rest in peace.
