His wife Alcie Clemtine Durance Williams 1848-1875 who was suffering from TB died the day after Marshall williams. They left 3 orphans Myrtice, Alice and James. The girls were raised by their uncle and aunt Nathan K. Williams (Marshall Williams brother) and Celia Durrance Williams ( Alice Durrance Williams sister). Two brothers had married two Durrance sisters.
