As I reflect back on the passing of Sgt. Ray Whobrey, I was a young girl of 14. Sgt Whobrey and his family lived across the street from our family. Our families were intertwined, as I played with his girls regularly. It was a very sad day when we received the news of his passing. I can still remember the funeral procession. It is comforting to see so many officers today still remembering and saluting him and other fallen heroes for their service. MAY GOD BE WITH ALL WHO SERVE!

I am not sure of my relation to Ray, but I know that we are. It is so sad that this would happen to someone that has the courage to on the police force.

I look just like you, yet I don't even know you. You were taken away way too soon. You're my grandpa and I'm proud of that. Wish you could've been here to save me from your psycho daughter. I love you even tho I don't know you. Will meet you in heaven one day.

Your heroism and service is honored today as we approach the 56th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer, 52 years after you were killed.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.
