Reflections for Border Patrol Inspector Edwin H. Wheeler

While your killers may have never been caught they surely faced a higher justice at a later time. Thank you for your service and please know that your sacrifice is one that will never, ever be forgotten. Rest in peace always.

Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 60th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Hey there Brother, it's been almost 56 years since you were taken from your family, community, and the Patrol family. I'm glad to ware the same gold shield that you wore, and I can only hope that I bring it the same kind of honor that you brought to it during the eleven years that you wore it. Rest In Peace Brother, knowing that there are Agents who have followed in your footsteps in order to uphold the same principles and ideals that you upheld and stood for. Keep watch over our brothers and sisters in Green and everyone behind the badge, and help keep us out of harms way. You will never be forgotten. We have the Line.

I am saddened at how you died. The perpetrator may have escaped justice here on earth, but we all must answer to God. Your death does not decrease the life you lived or the service you gave. Thank you, Inspector Wheeler, for your courage and dedication. The world is surely a better placed because you passed this way.

As I look at the faces of the men and women here, I see the faces of my co-workers. I can imagine each of them shooting the bull and swapping war stories at choir practice as the meat sizzles on the grill. I see them laughing, pranking and teasing their fellow agents, as we often do when we relieve stress. I wish that each of them were still here to share the good times.

And I feel compelled to look at each of the faces here and remember…to remember that each of them made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country and we should NEVER forget them or their service.

Too often the sacrifices of those who serve our country are overlooked or casually dismissed by the very public they served so selflessly. But WE should never forget them…each and every one of them. May they each rest in peace eternally in God’s loving embrace.
