Sheriff Westwood was my GG Grandfather. I appreciate this memorial. I've always honored police officers and am grateful to see such a kind tribute to an officer killed in the line of duty.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 85th anniversary year of your death.

Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.

Phyllis Lasater
mom of fallen Pittsburg (CA) officer Larry Lasater

Richard was not only a deputy sheriff for Grand County, he was also a town marshal for Moab since 1900. He would fill in as the county sheriff when ever the elected sheriff left. When Butch Cassidy would leave western Utah to head for Colorado or Wyoming to rob trains it was not unusual for them to go through Moab. Richard would form up a posse when he received notification. He and a posse went on one track that lasted 76 days before the trail went cold in Wyoming.
