What an amazing and exceptional story about heroism and sacrifice. It is clear that only complete and utter exhaustion kept Deputy Badger from saving all. A great testament to courage, honor and love of others. Great to see many of his relatives honoring his life and sacrifice.

My name is Gisela Mendoza and I am a student at Mission Hills High School in California. I am taking a criminal justice class and one of our assignments was do to a research paper on a fallen officer from various law enforcement agencies throughout the United States. This was in honor of Peace Officer Memorial Day. I chose to do my report on Deputy Badger because we should remember him just like every other fallen officer even if this incident happened long ago. I pay my respects to his relatives who continue to keep his legacy alive. I too, will remember Deputy Badger for his courage, bravery, and strength. It is not easy to do what he did. I just hope that one day I am able to serve my community with the same strength he served his own.

You are my 3rd great grand aunts father, and I just learned about you a few months ago. It's sad how our ancestors can be lost at times.

Rodney, I commend you for your bravery and diligence to want to help others. You gave others an opportunity to live at the highest price of them all. Your family loves you, and will always respect you.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the one hundred and fifty sixth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.
