To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 50th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.

Mom of fallen California Officer Larry Lasater, Pittsburg PD, eow 4/24/05

You are still remembered in the NPD with honor and the highest respect. Your son Bob Wash carried on in your footsteps and earned a reputation for being a true leader and a man of great ability to put the bad guys away the right way. He is admired for his integrity, fairness, and knowledge by not only officers, but all other agencies, judges, lawyers, and citizens alike. RIP Detective Wash, tomorrow at the Officers Memorial Sevice your name will be read and your legacy will continue to inspire others.

Detective Wash was my Grandfather. I remember him well. I was seven years old when grandpa was killed. I remember a kind man with a lot of pride for his town. As a child I really never understood the pain of loss. Not until I was 30 did I realize what was taken away. It has been a hard time trying to deal with not having this grandfather all my life. My Mother dealing with the lost of her best friend and loving Father impacted me also. My family and I go every year the the Memorial service in Florida. Where My Grandfathers name " Detective Robert Courtland Wash" is on the Heroes Wall in Tutisville. Every year I remember His sacrifice for His town and folks. Granny Marie, His wife, is still living today. She is 94 years old and not a day goes by that she doesn't think of Grandpa.
The sacrifices that are made are great, however the Memories live on. Lest we never forget.

I am the grandson of this Brave and Couragous Hero. I never had the priviledge to meet my grandfather as he died a year before I was born. I am named after him as a tribute to his life and legacy. Even though I never met him it seems I miss him more everyday. I feel a deep loss, yearning for something that is missing. I do shed tears several times a year sometimes only for all the memories I have missed. I do feel his presents in my life at times and that does help me with the sadness. I have submitted this reflection as a healing of sorts. You see me mother passed away Jan 15,2008 and I never thought I would miss anyone more than the void I have for my grandmother. But once again my grandfather has left another of several legacies. This one is directly due to his influence on his daughter Maureen Wash Cuthrell. The courage she showed in her fight for cancer shows the strength her father bestowed on her through her young life. The causes she took up like better support for fallen officers families was nothing less than motivating. I just wanted to say that I miss them so much and that heros leave sorrow mixed with the glory of knowing the impact they made and still make even 47 years after my grandfathers death. I love you forever Grandpa and my beautiful Mother. Rest in beautiful peace and may you both be together waiting for us.

Love your grandson and son,

Robert Courtland Cuthrell

Detective Wash,
I had the occasion to speak with your son a few weeks ago as he is part of a group that is helping sponsor me in a walk to raise money for Concerns of Police Survivors. You were just 8 years older than my husband when he was killed in the line of duty, and I wasn't even born yet when you were killed. I know what your family has been through over the years and my heart goes out to them. Thank you sir for your sacrifice and your service to the city of Norfolk (I have quite a few relatives who live/have lived there). I will remember you in October while I am walking for COPS!!!

Detective Wash,
On today, the 45th anniversary of your murder, I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Norfolk. It took six more months, but the scum that murdered you got the justice that he deserved.
