Your heroism and service is honored today, the forty-first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Hey ben,
I just noticed that they put up a new poster for you. I am not sure when they put it up because I am in the jail, so i dont often get to go to the law enforcement side. It is a very nice collage of pictures and newspaper articles. This is just a reminder that we all think very highly of you and we are remembering your honor everyday. Take it easy buddy.

I was in the police academy when Ben was killed. His picture hangs on the wall in the Law Enforcement Division, and reminds all of us why we wear the badge. Rest in Peace brother.

Deputy Walker, As I pass through the doors of our Department to start my shift, I see your stoic eyes looking down on me. As I pass by I silently thank you and touch the photo of the current hero on the ODMP plaque below yours. Your sacrifice is not forgotten, your lose still mourned, and your family still in our prayers. You will live on in our hearts, your photo a constant reminder that we have a guardian angel looking over us. Blessed are the peacekeepers, for they will be called sons of God. Ben,
I have worked for the county for a few years now. I have read all the articles in the lobby. I look at your picture everyday. I know it has been a while sence the end of your watch, but I want you to know that you are still touching us young guys. You are a hero to all of us. I only hope that we can continue your efforts and make you as proud of us as we are of you.

The Walker family,
I would be honored to have met you. You are all in my prayers. I want you all to know that Ben will never be forgotten.

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

Deputy Walker, you are remembered on this date of your death. You will always be remembered.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.

If this doesn't make your blood boil, you are not alive. Your death
diminshes us all. Thank you for your selfless service and sacrifice. It is
a long road to healing that lies ahead, but I know that our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ will extend His mercy and comfort to all who reach
out to Him. There is none greater than He. We don't get to Heaven based
on what we do, but what He did for us!! AMEN! There is now a huge void
that cannot be filled. God be with all those who mourn and may His
promises lift all those with heavy hearts for many years to come.
