With sadness I report that Alice Imogene Williams (my mother) passed on October 8th, 2017. She was the only remaining living child of Trooper Joseph Newton Avary (my grandfather). here funeral will be Friday, October 13th., 2017 at All Faiths Funeral Home, Grand Island, NE, and will then be buried next to my father (Forrest 'Floyd' Williams) in the Beaver City, NE cemetery. Many thanks from our family to the Texas Trooper Association and to the Texas DPS for honoring Joseph Newton Avary and my mother!

Joseph Newton Avary was my grandfather (on my mother's side). My mom Alice Imogene Williams is (as of this date, 02/05/2016) the only living child (she is 88 years old and living in the Veterans Home in Grand Island, NE. In 2005, my mother and I attended the Memorial Ceremony at the Texas Capital, and we were asked to stand and be recognized, and tribute was paid to my grandfather. That meant SO much to my mom and I! Thank you Texas, SO MUCH for you efforts to honor those "fallen" Troopers!

Very humble and grateful!

Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 77th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.

I had the privilege of serving on the Honor Guard detail when your Memorial Monument was dedicated 63 years after your death. It was a brief ceremony, however I reflected on all of the Patrolmen/Troopers who have made the supreme sacrifice.

Thank you for your service to the State of Texas.
