Reflections for Officer J. D. Tippit

The thin blue line once again was too close to an event that, in this case, touched world history forever. The information that officer Tippit could have provided may have changed that course of history. The human element entered into the event and an unholstered weapon may have made the difference. As a former officer, I too have made decisions that could have been equally as horrific. Officers are human and make mistakes. Where do we keep getting men and women willing to run toward the danger instead of away from it? Rest in peace with the certain knowledge that you will not be forgotten. May God bless you and your family who surely think of you daily.

One day we all will know what made you stop LHO. What was said and what made you exit the car with your gun unholstered. Your death was paramount to the capture of LHO. Your bravery trumps that of a heartless coward. RIP my brother

The years have passed away but the memory of this day will long live in so many minds. Your courage that day led to the arrest of the President's killer. If it had not been for your stopping Oswald who knows where he would have ended up going. He could have left the country for all we know. Your dedication to the badge and answering the call will always be remembered. November 22 although will always bring a tear to my eyes wishing the outcome was different You will be the reason that Oswald was found. Thank You!! RIP

I have been to Dallas and visited the sites several times, but last Thursday (Nov. 17, 2011) I paid my respects at Officer Tippit's grave for the first time. What a shame that his family was robbed of him in his prime. My heartfelt sympathy to them on this sad anniversary.

On today, the 48th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but also for our Country when you served in the U.S. Army during WW II. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 48th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect.

I found a book that includes an audio CD of that historic day. The CD tracks include your last radio transmission and the citizen's transmission reporting you'd been shot. As a 14 year veteran of police dispatch, it is chilling, to say the least.

Rest easy knowing we've got it from here and you are not forgotten.

Dear J.D. ~

The 47th anniversary of that terrible day in our history -- it truly seems impossible that so many years could have passed. Those of us who remember do so in graphic and vivid detail, and the sadness that enveloped us on November 22, 1963, has never left us. Your family members are always in my thoughts and prayers; I know they will be so glad to finally see you once again! Your heavenly Thanksgiving must have been spectacular, and I know your Christmas will be even better --- Hallelujah!! Rest peacefully in God's presence, and be assured that you will never be forgotten.

Sir on this day November 23, 2009 i stop to remember you and what you gave four your country. Getting out with any suspect always causes a little edge for a officer, getting out with a man suspected in killing the President of the United States had to enhance that, there was no way you could know at that time if this was a Soviet hitman or just a evil person. You were sharpe to have spotted him especially with all the confusion going on at that time but you went right at him, to do the right thing. Now sir you are a part of history that can never be changed, Maybe one day all the facts will come out and if they were anyone else involved in this act they should face the justice for you and the President President Kennedy said in the past a saying that fits your scrrafice. Officer J.D. Tippit was a greatful man and a solem nation will be forever in his debt. Gog Bless Sir.
