Has it really been 26 years!? I remember when this happened and I was stunned. I had just spoken to you earlier in the year at "Gang School" at the STARs Center, you had given a class on "Officer Survival in the Gang Environment" that outlined the incident you and Mike Waters had survived. That video and your class have been the subject of many a conversation between me and my trainees as an FTO and my troops as a Sergeant. That "never give up, continue to fight" mental toughness you inspired and epitomized has saved a lot of cops from serious injury or worse, my friend. I was a boot Signal Hill cop, with less than 5 years back then. I'm going on 31 years as I write this, and I have changed locales, but I have used the things you taught me every day, and passed them on to countless student officers. The legacy you left reaches far beyond LASD. You will be remembered by yet another generation of cops for what you taught us old guys "back in the day," because the concepts are still the same...God Bless you , George, you were an inspiration. It was a privilege to know you, even for a short time.

You are still remembered Deputy Arthur by one of your students. The class you taught "Student and the Law" made a big impact on me and how I live my life.
And just a humourous note: You always smelled so good :-) we would always say that to you and it made you smile.
If by chance any of your family reads this, and you saw or remember a painted ceramic plaque that said "policeman" I am the student that gave him that as a going away gift. RIP

Nino, after all these years, your still loved and missed so much. As a child, you always made me feel so special and loved. You've been such an incredible influence on how I raise my two boys (yes, I've carried on the easter bunny scavenger hunt and santa claus always traispes through our house on xmas eve). I wish you could have met them - they would have loved you just as much as I do. I was only ten years old when you were taken so prematurely from us. We still had so much to explore together. You would think that my memories of you would have faded but, I can still see your smile and hear your laugh. You'll always be in my heart and greatly missed. Remember "..ain't no mountain high enough.." Happy Father's Day, Nino. All my love, Stephanie

Sergeant Arthur - I, too, have see the video that, my fellow LAPD member, Mike Parlor talked about. You survived a violent encounter with multiple suspects only to be killed by a...well, we'll leave it at that. Since your killing happened on LAPD soil I saw a former partner who worked the case to the conclusion. Justice, I guess, was finally served. Self-service, if you will.

Next week LAPD and LASD retirees will gather for lunch in Colorado to tell lies and make boasts. We will miss many friends. You will be among the honored, I will make sure of it.

Thank you for your service to the people of Los Angeles County and the State of California. May God grant you eternal rest and may His perpetual light shine upon you.

Deputy Arthur, you were my favorite teacher, and I loved your class so much, I took it in junior high and high school. You were always so inspiring to me. I used to love to hear you speak about your cases. I still remember many of them, and have told them to my children. You will always live on in the hearts of all the students you inspired.

George, time passes but the memories linger on. Your frantic calls for assistance, and your fight for survival. You taught us all to hang tough. At FPK, Lynwood and Temple I always remembered your strong will to survive, your generous welcoming of new men and women into the fold. May God have you in your proper place, as you live on in our memories. RIP

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 24th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I am glad that your murder was finally solved, though a bit shocked to learn the perpetrator's identity.

I still have my copy of that LASD training tape depicting You and Your partner's will to survive when vastly outnumbered / outgunned. When LAPD finally announced what many of us had already suspected, I was hoping to one day hear from his lips why. I received no solace when the FBI announced that they had found his remains.

You and Michael Edwards(LAPD) will never be forgotten.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

George,
We worked together in "Juvenile Files" at FPK (not proper to call it a gang unit then, remember?).....A good cop. A good man. You made me a better cop. I'll remember you always.
