Reflections for Detective Sergeant Edward M. Sullivan

I’ve heard the stories, as can only told by the Sullivan family, and I am proud to be your grandson, first born boy of your youngest son, Jack. As long as I have breath, I will regale others with the sacrifices you made, the heroism you displayed and the fight you courageously fought. Your story will continue for generations as it is as much my story. I hope to meet you one day in Glory I will finally get to hug my Grandpa. Until then, rest well and know that your legacy lives on and is represented well amongst your heirs. Your grandson, Brian.

I am the mother of two of your great grandchildren, and am married to your grandson, Brian. Your son, Jack has become a father to me and while he was only a toddler when you were taken from him, he has become a man that so many look to for comfort, for advice and for a good laugh. His family adores him and his four brothers helped raised him to be strong and loved. It has been my honor to know him. Your family is thriving and remembers your sacrifice proudly.

You were gone 9 years when I was born, but I came to know you through my father Dick, my mother, and countless others who knew, loved, and respected you. I accompanied my dad many times when we tended your grave site, said a prayer, and shed a tear for what might have been. Your strength and valor have been and will continue to be an inspiration to the generations you created. May you look upon your family with pride, and may you rest in peace.
Love
your grandson, Steve

As long as your family remembers and speaks your name, you live on. I grew up hearing about your service in Europe and here at home. I wish I could have met you, but your sons were the greatest men I’ve ever known.

Love,

Your great-granddaughter Jamie Ann

I said a little prayer today for Detective Sergeant Sullivan and his family. He may be gone but never forgotten. He will always be a New York HERO.

An ambush killing two officers at my husband's police dept. brought me to this website, where I read your story.
You left a large family, which saddens me, but they must have been so proud of the person you were, to sacrifice so much for us all.
Thank you.
