I remember the day I heard my Uncle Thomas Stroud was killed. I was only six years old, but remember that It was a sad and shocking event. His son Jim and I were good friends growing up. Uncle Stroud's wife, Mary Murdock Stroud was my aunt and was loved and admired for taking care of her mother/my grandma Murdock. She never remarried, though she was a pretty and adventurous woman who supported herself as a registered nurse. Uncle Stroud died before I had an opportunity to know him and his absence was often felt in the family for many years following his accident. I remember a photo of him sitting on his motorcycle in he and my Aunt Mary's living room. He cut quite a heroic figure in that photo.
