I've known your son for almost 40+ years... Elementary, Junior High, and Senior High schools. We recently reconnected on Facebook about 2 1/2 years ago and met up again last year while my wife and I were visiting Greenville, SC. Your son is a fine man I must say and I am proud to call him my friend.

I met one of your sons today in Greenville, SC, one day after we laid to rest Ofc. Allen Jacobs of the Greenville Police Department. Found out that both he an I were at the funeral. It is tough on survivors, but I honor both their and your sacrifice. Rest easy, we have the watch.

To family and friends of Al Steinat: I often think of my years living in PG County and decided to "google" Al's name and found this page. On May 2, 1963 I was a 16 year old Junior member of the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department. I remember well the shock and sadness that came on the news of Al's passing. We draped the front of the fire house in black as we all mourned. I didn't know Al as well as the other fire fighters and police officer who were members because I was a new Junior member, but I knew his character, one of courage and commitment to serve his community. I wish you all well and hope this remembrance serves to comfort you in knowing Al was well liked and respected by all.

As the police come under ever increasing pressures and attacks, the dedication and heroism that members of the Prince George's County Police and all police agencies across the nation display everyday becomes ever more important. The police are the glue that keeps our culture alive and intact. Thank you for your service Officer Steinat. Thanks also to your family for the sacrifice they made.

Dear Officer Steinat,

Your passing happened before I moved to Bowie, MD on December 13, 1963. It truly shocked me when I read about it on Facebook.

I met your daughter Carolyn two or three years ago. She is amazing! We have become friends because of Facebook on the internet... but you already know that! Carolyn is a survivor in more ways than than one can imagine! I just wanted to put it out there. I know you are proud and grateful she is your daughter...

I don't know your son, but from the posts he has made here, he sounds amazing too!

I knew your son in Jr. High. He was a great guy then and has grown into a man that you'd be proud of. You left something wonderful behind on earth when you went to heaven- you must be proud of your family and all they've become. I'm sorry that your life here was cut short. I know Bobby has missed you horribly. In remembrance of all who've given their lives for the protection of all. May you rest in peace.

Hi Mr. Al....Wish I had a chance to meet you and thank you for your son Bob being in my life. I have heard alot about you from many people and Bob talks about you and thinks of you all the time. He is a great man and I think you would be proud of him and his 3 children. I love him very much and see how never knowing you has affected his life and nothing will ever fill that space. I know your out there watching over him and keeping him safe.

Officer Steinat,
After reading the reflections left for you by your family, it's obvious to me that besides being a courageous and dedicated police officer, you were also a dedicated family man. Your tenacity to continue your fight after being mortally wounded is the epitome of what we preach to our young new officers, you are heralded as a warrior and an example for others. Thank you for your sacrafice. Rest in peace.
