Reflections for Detective Robert J. Shannon

Thinking of you today and knowing how painful this was to my grandmother, who was your niece and great grandmother, who was your sister. It’s strange how I live in the same area where this occurred. East Lindsey Ave. Cedar Grove. Christmas that year, 105 years ago, was changed forever for them. - S. LiCalsi, Verona, NJ

I also had never met you although I would be your 1st cousin twice removed. I have the newspaper article that my great grandmother had kept among her things.
It will be 100 years on Dec. 15, 2015 that you left your family--bravely.

Thinking of you today on the 97th anniversary of your death. I never met you, but remember my grandmother Margaret sharing this story with my sisters and I when we were kids.

I remember this terrible story being told by my grandmother when I was a little girl. My grandmother was 9 years old when it happened. This was her Uncle Robbie. My mother has this photo hanging in her home. We are very proud of his heroism and bravery and we still mourn him today. Rest in peace Uncle Robbie.

I never dreamed it would be me,
My name for all eternity,
Recorded here at this hallowed place
Alas, my name, no more my face.

"In the line of duty, " I hear them say:
My family now the price to pay.
My folded flag stained with their tears;
We only had those few short years.
The badge no longer on my chest,
I sleep now in eternal rest.
My sword I pass to those behind,
And pray they keep this thought in mind.

I never dreamed it would be me,
And with heavy heart and bended knee,
I ask for all here from the past:
Dear God, let my name be the last.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children OF GOD
