The memorial and recognition service was held for you on June 4th 2013. Olanta did an amazing job in honoring you. You gave your life for that town and now everyone knows. The portrait is beautiful and will hang in the town hall for all to see!!

Its amazing that it has taken 37 years but things are starting to fall into place. The town that you gave your life for is finally recognizing you for the price that you paid. I only wish your mom, my grandmother was here to see it. Although justice has eluded me and probably always will, I am happy to say that you are getting the recognition you so terribly deserved!!

Even though it has been 36 years, I remember answering the door to the knocking of the mayor at that time who was looking for my dad who was on council. Not many people really know what happened that night or what led up to that night. I do know that any attempt to investigate it in later years was shut down.
Anyway my father always said that you were one of America’s finest. May God Bless You and watch over your family!

This is the first I have heard of your story Chief Sexton and the complete miscarriage of justice in this case is sickening. May you continue to rest in peace. Sleep Well Brother!!

I look at the comments left by people that knew you and people that didnt. You where taken away from me way to soon, I will see you again one day. Please rest in peace as I try to get some resolution out of this horrible situation. Please look over my family and I as I try to get you the justice that you so terribly deserve!

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 34th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Two years in prison seems like such a travesty of justice, and I am sorry that you, your family, or your your department did not get the full measure of justice all deserved.

Rest In Peace

What a miscarriage of justice and a "slap-in-the-face" to your family for the light sentence imposed on the murderer! Thank you for your courage and service to the citizens of Olanta.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

What a terrible tradegy. And the "officer" who so cruely ended the Chief's life received only two years.....justice was not served.

Chief, thank you for your service and dedication.
