Reflections for Patrolman Herbert D. Allen

Patrolman Allen, it has been 96 years since you were taken from us. New England law enforcement has continued to thrive, learn and become safer due to the traditions and sacrifices you, your family, and many others have made for us. Thank you for your almost 2 years of law enforcement service.

Herbert Allen was my great grandfather on my father’s side. I was very close with my grandfather, Harold, Herbert’s son, who is now deceased. I am not sure how to contact Daniel Daly directly, but it would mean the world to me to receive his Medal of Honor. I am located in Minneapolis, but I would travel to meet you in person.

I attended the memorial for Herbert David Allen in September 2012. He was my mother’s uncle, her father was his brother Fred Allen. I have the Medal of Honor awarded Officer Allen and I am trying to find a family member to give it to.

Herbert D. Allen was my paternal grandfather. For years the family story was that he died Christmas Eve when my father was 2 years. My father was 6 yrs old and it wasn't Christmas Eve but finding this listing meant I was able to follow up my family history and move back through time to colonial America.

Besides, it adds an essential link as well as a proud notice to an everyday American family. Thank you so much for this notice. It's meant so much to me.
