Deputy Pribble, you are my father's cousin. I remember your picture hanging in my father's house for years. I even remember meeting you! In your honor, we will be driving to 6 police substations in the Albuquerque area to deliver care packages and letters of encouragement. Thank you for your sacrifices. I'm happy I had a chance to meet you.

I was 12 years old travelling with my family, stopped at a rest stop to let the engine cool after a hot drive south from through the desert. I saw the officer walking along the cab of the truck from the passenger's door toward the front of the hood, while man inside leaned out of the window of his camper with a rifle and shot the officer in the back. Now I know his name - Deputy Pribble. He has been in my thoughts from time to time for decades. I wish I had the presence of mind to warn him. My sympathy goes out to Deputy Sheriff Pribble and his family.

You were my father's partner and his best friend. This past week we lost 2 officers in the line of duty in the small town where my father now lives. The pain of loosing you is still fresh in his memory and I know that there is not a day that goes by that he does not think about you. He does not talk about it much but I know that he loves you like a brother. You are a hero to us all. We will never forget.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

My parents, brother, sister, and I were there that fateful moment. We never forgot your heroism and the heroism of your colleagues and the priority all of you showed for our safety and the safety of other innocent bystanders that day.

Deputy Pribble, I did not know you and came to this department long after your unfortunate death; that said, I just want you and your family to know that you not only left this department a legacy but you are a legend within it.

I have heard many stories of your honor and fearlessness. My husband is also a part of the department and I only hope that you and all of God's other heroes are watching over "have the back" of all the deputies and officers down here.

Thank you for your sacrifice!
