Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Raul "Ruly" Adauto

Ruly, next week it will be 36 years since you left us. We miss you every day. We lost Becky to Covid last year, I know you were there to help her, but it has been hard for us, it felt as if we lost you all over again. Your girls are doing well. I’m working out and ran my first 5K last year in your memory. We will be running again at the end of April. I’ll be thinking about how you had me running around the track at Rowland. Good memories!
The police memorial here found out that we were survivors and thought it would be nice to add you to their memorial service, families no matter where we live, always! Love you and miss you, Joanie

Ruly,
Man I miss you. We had many great times at SEB. After all these years I am still telling Ruly stories. Many of the Ruly-isms I have adopted and they live on, like; "If I told you once I told you a million times don't exaggerate". You were a great cop, a great Special Weapons Team partner, but most of all a great friend. Love you Ruly....

Joanie and family,
I thank you for your sacrifice of time away from Ruly so I could know Him...

Hey Ruly,

Thank you for all you did for me and my family. I know you are in a safe happy place with my dad and without a doubt having fun. Think of you often and am thankful you were in my life.

Ah, Ruly: I was a Deputy at the LASD Lynwood Station when you drove by my traffic stop one dark night. I was laid out on an emergency blanket (not to get my pristine uniform dirty) looking under a Cadillac for a hidden VIN number on a suspected stolen / VIN switched vehicle. You stopped (back up) to ask what the HELL I was doing! Appreciate the back up, partner. I always remembered your stop to help. You were Special Enforcement Bureau / SWAT deputy (which patrol deputies always looked up to) on selective enforcement patrol in my Lynwood Station area on that night. Years later, I was a back up deputy at the scene of a deputy involved shooting where your nephew/deputy was involved. It all comes around, eh? Thanks for the support Ruly. It was appreciated!! RIP brother.

There are so many things I wish I had the opportunity to tell you. While there is no doubt in my heart and mind you were with me during all of my training I would do anything to sit down with you one more time. Though you are no longer with us I will do my best to continue your legacy as a man and Deputy. As one of your SEB partners once said " You're Ruly's nephew?, Son you have some pretty big boots to fill." Thank you for always answering my prayers and looking over me through out my career. Love you

On the 24th anniversary of Deputy Adauto's death, we honored his service in our patrol briefing by reading his entry from ODMP. Each day, we honor one fallen officer on the anniversary of their death so as to keep them in our thoughts, and also to remind us of the dangers inherent in our job. Deputy Adauto is not forgotten.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 23rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Unfortunately, no matter how well trained or competent the officers are, every day on the job is a day of peril. Within the last three weeks 4 brave officers from Oakland, CA and 3 brave officers from Pittsburgh, PA have been murdered by thugs wielding AK-47s.
How brave are each of our true American heroes who face danger each day he or she pins on thier badges to police our streets so that our communities may be safeguarded.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Your birthday was just a few days ago, you would have been 61! I wish you could have been with us for Lorrie's college graduation, and for Jackie's high school graduation. You would have been so proud of them. We are doing great, but miss you everyday.
I can still hear your laugh, and see your smile light up the dark. I see you in our grandchildren and through them you will always be a part of this time.
You changed this world, by being so strong, and giving your all. My heart still aches for you, love, Joanie

It has been over two decades since your tour of duty ended but you are still thought of every day by those that love you. I know you are walking next to those grandchildren and protecting them, keep up the watch over them and show them the right path to take in life. You are a true hero and heroes never die, ylu will never be forgotten by those that love you nor will the Blue Family ever let you be forgotten.

My brother Ben sent me this. I am so glad. Thinking of my brother Ruly makes me smile and want to cry at the same time. Whether he was playing bus driver, in SEB mode, in a tux at the Academy Awards or riding his bike to Commerce from Rowland Hights. He was something else. I miss him so very much. He was my big brother. As well as everyone else's.

It's been twenty years and I still miss him everyday. My dad loved his family and his job. I only wish he could have known his four grandchildren; he would have loved spending time with them. Love You Dad!

Rudy was a mentor & friend. He always took the time to tutor me in narcotics, while we were working at Norwalk station. I greatly appreciated an old dog, teaching a "puppy" new tricks.
I will be forever grateful.
