Reflections for Police Officer Dominic Paparelli

Your heroism and service is honored today, the fifty-first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I was saddened to see that Christmas Day is the eow for so many, many officers. Rest In Peace.

Dominic Paparelli was not only a police officer, he was my grandfather. I still remember him leaving for work on Christmas Eve, and not coming home. I miss him still. He was a good man, with a loving heart, especially for his family. He taught me how to "spit" shine shoes and gave the best piggy back rides and was well on his way to teaching me to speak Italian. I was not able to share most of my life with him since I was six when he was killed by a drunk driver. His death is a constant reminder to not drink and drive! Remembering Grandpa Paparelli each Christmas always brings a moment of sadness, but even greater memories of the man who was and will always be my hero. My gratitude to each of you who have left rememberances. And to those of you who are also peace officers, thank you and God Bless.

Police Officer Dominic Paparelli,

Our duty as law officers has always been hazardous and the possibility of being injured or killed is ever-present. It is unfortunate that you would die while performing a routine service such as directing traffic. No one or nobody can reasonably predict disaster when we report for our shift. We regret that you had to sacrifice your life in the process, and we recognize you as a hero. You have brought honor to your community, it's people and yourself by becoming a law officer. To you we render a word of thanks and final salute.
