Reflections for Police Officer Gary D. Pagano

I grew up down the road from where Officer Pagano lived. Although I was only 10 at the time, I will never forget the memory of the day of his funeral. Seeing all the officers come to pay their respects to Officer Pagano left me with a true sense of the police brotherhood. I cant help but think that that may have had something to do with me becoming a police officer. Godspeed Officer Pagano.

To the family of Officer Pagano. As I read the words printed here, I couldn't help but get that lump in the throat feeling. I grew up in New Rochelle and was 12 years old when your Officer Pagano was taken to heaven. I was one of the kids who always looked up to the New Rochelle cops. I knew many of them as a boy and now know some of them today. Thank you Officer Pagano for your service to both New Rochelle and to our nation. Rest in peace.

Gary was my brother-in-law. I can remember all the good times we had together. Always clowning around when spending weekends and holidays together. I remember him picking me up after I had my appendix operation and needing a pillow to stop from laughing so hard. He is truly missed and never forgotten.

Gary was the most loving and caring husband and father a family could every ask for. He loved his daughters very, very much.
Even tough he worked shifts, he always found the time to spend with his girls and the rest of the family.
He didn't get to see his little girls grow up, get married, and have children of their own. He has 3 Grandsons, 2 Grandaughters (of which one is with him).
He will always be in the hearts and thoughts of his family and friends forever.
Gary always said he wanted to go down in a BLAZE OF GLORY. He got his wish.

To the family: I think its great that this fine man is remembered by his family. I have read what you have written and am touched. I am more touched that you have written reflections to so many other officers killed. The bond between officers, after a line of duty death, is showen by the actions of their loved ones. Your father, brother, granddad.. must be very proud of the women in his life. God bless you!

I was 10 years old when my father was killed. It was a day that I will never forget. There are so many things to remember about him, since I have a lot of his qaulities. I wanted to be just like him when I was little. We used to walk our dog Major together. He taught me to ice skate, he taught me to play softball. The most favorite thing I loved was that he rode a Police Motorcycle, he gave me a ride and ever since then I wanted my own motorcycle. When I was 18 years old I met my future husband, Stephan. Little did I know he was one of the Sheriff Cadets in my father's funeral persecion. God must have had a hand in that. My husband was also a Marine. So you can see that my father will always be with me no matter what I do. And yes, the motorcycle, I did get one. The thing I do miss the most is that he can not see his 3 grandchildren grow up.
My father is with God and I will see him again, but until then I am left with the words upon his grave marker.
He has gone his course,
He has faught a good fight,
He is in Gods hands now.
With all my love,

Officer Gary D. Pagano was my father. He was killed in the line of duty when I was 12 years old. I will remember that day as if it were only yesterday. My father was a caring and giving man. I remember him putting on a puppet show all the time for my younger sister & I. He had a big heart and was always there when we needed him. I am trying to pass down to my son a lot of qualities that my father had. I think what I miss most about him is that he is not here to see us all grown up and be here for his grandchildren. To many people he died a heroic death doing what he loved to do. He always said "If I die, I want to die on the force doing what I love to do" My father will always be my hero. Love ya Dad

Gary was my older brother and from the earliest time, I can remember playing "soldiers" with him and my sister and brother. Gary was born a Marine..it was only fitting after serving his tour of duty in Nam he joined the New Rochelle Police Force. Even though his death was untimely, Gary earned a living doing what he loved best..protecting citizens and our country's freedom. He will always be missed and never forgotten. The stories of his heroics are being passed down to his children and grandchildren.

Gary is remembered by his fellow NRPD officers and Viet Nam veterans. He was a good cop, a dedicated family man and served his country in war; the type of person that pushes our nation forward every day, quietly, without fanfare. They march on, these war veterans who later became cops and firefighters, they are the backbone of our nation upon whose shoulders all the rest of us stand.
His name is written in heaven.

My Name is Not Important

While on patrol in 1985, I stoped a vehicle on the east bound ramp of I-84 for a traffic Infraction. As I approched the vehicle I could see Two women crying and trying to dry their eyes. After getting the operators license and insurance, I asked what was wrong. Still crying, The operator replied my husband was a police officer, but I don't think you would have known him. As I looked at the license I saw the name Pagano. I then realized it was Fathers Day, and I was talking to Gary's wife and mother, They looked suprized when I said I knew him very well and was a great guy. I never told them I met Gary and worked with him for seven years as an aux. police officer for the city of New Rochelle N.Y.
