Reflections for Private Bobby G. Padgett

Fror the post above from:

Bobby was my Mother's brother. His girl's name is Faye. Here 2 brothers are Neal and Allen.

He was my uncle, but I was not born until 1962.

The Padgett family and my family lived in the same neighborhood housing complex in the western part of Alexandria City known as Chinquapin Village. The Padgett family lived about 50 yards from us and I delivered the Alexandria Gazette, a daily newspaper to their house and his oldest daughter went to the same elementary school as I did, MacArthur. I turned 10 on February 3, the day before he was murdered. The news he had been killed was horrific and did not see his oldest daughter whose name escapes me after 60+ years for a week or two. She was so pretty, long blond curly hair, Remember him sometimes when I delivered the paper, always smiling and paid me every week 25 cents on time. His wife and children moved away that summer... usually think of him around my birthday each year. Since I retired from a neighboring PD after 22 years service, every time I use to visit the ole Alexandria PD on Pitt Street, I usually visit the plaque with his name and too many others to remember. His partner, whose name I do not remember any more either, was shot in the arm. I had his daughter named Shelly in my 5th grade class. I believe they moved from the area too after that school year was over...

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 53rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect and your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for solace for all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. I hold your family in my heart's embrace today. To your son and brother, thanks for sharing a aon and brother's eternal devotion to their beloved father and brother.

Rest In Peace
