Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Patrolman Merrill Henderson Ogle

Merrill was my grandfather’s brother. My grandfather, John W. Ogle, Sr., served in the US Coast Guard, retired and then had a career of service in the FAA, eventually retiring in New Orleans. The oldest thing in my house is a picture of my grandfather with his brother Merrill when they were young boys, maybe about 6 years old. I recently found a Christmas card from 1923 at my father’s house, turned it over and found Merrill’s signature on the back. Merrill would have been about 8 years old when he signed the card. Both the picture and the card are prized possessions. I look at their picture and reflect on their service every morning before I leave for work to serve others myself.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. I am privileged to pay tribute to you. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 76th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know that both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Rest In Peace.

No officer who lost his life in the line of duty should be without a reflection. You'll never be forgotten, Officer Ogle. You're a hero today just as you were 56 years ago, and just as you'll be 56 years from now.......Thank you........
