Reflections for Patrolman John J. O'Brien
I ran in the N.Y.P.D. Memorial Run on May 22nd, 2011, in honor of John J. O'Brien. Even though I didn't know of him until recently, his bravery stands as a testament to all law enforcement officers everywhere, especially New York. Rest in peace.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 145th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was murdered on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Your department never gave up even though it took 14 years to apprehend your killer.
Rest In Peace.

In reading your memorial page, I am in AWE of what you did. To have been shot in the head and still managed to have gone after the scum who shot you is, I cannot say what it is. Amazing? Gutsy beyond belief? The only word that I can say I truly believe fits is, WOW!
Patrolman O'Brien, as one of the pioneers of American Law Enforcement, please allow me to thank you for your efforts and your heroics on this 145th anniversary of your murder. It's because of men like you, we in law enforcement today can do our jobs with the professionalism that is required. We can trace our lineage to the founding fathers of Policing, like yourself, with pride and admiration.
Brother, may you continue to Rest in Peace, and may God Bless you.

I said a little prayer today for Patrolman O'Brien and his family. He may be gone but never forgotten. He will always be a New York HERO.

Despite being shot in the head Patrolman O'Brien continued pursuing the fugitive. Such tremendous heroism; it will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace.
