Trooper O'Brien, it has been 69 years since you were taken from us. New England law enforcement has continued to thrive, learn and become safer due to the traditions and sacrifices you, your family, and many others have made for us. Thank you for your military and law enforcement service.

I am now 86 years old. I lost you when I was 19. I am still in love with you and always will be. When you drowned in Hurricane Carol, my mother said, "You have experienced the worst thing that will ever happen to you." She was right!

Danny was the love of my life. We had planned to be married in April of 1955, then I would enter and complete my senior year at URI. We had absolutely NO warning that a hurricane was coming.

Name in 1954 was Meredith (Merry) Holt.

I read your epitaph with a lump in my throat. A brave man who held the same name as my son. I also note that you gave your life on the same day of the same month that my daughter Rachel died aged 21 (albeit 58 years later.) Your kind are needed in this world and this world is all the poorer for your departure. God bless. xxx

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 59th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Trooper O'Brien,

When I forget that there are still true heroes in the world I think of you and these other officers who are giving their all for people they do not know. Thank you for your bravery, service and giving me a hero. I am truly sorry that you family and fiance lost you. As a newlywed myself, I often think about losing my spouse as he goes off to work. I am sorry you two never got to celebrate your love. Thinking of you.

I remember Danny well. I was 14 when he was killed and hung out with his younger brother Bobby. Danny spent a lot of time with us guys on his days off. He was a great guy and influenced all of us buys in Lincoln Park. RIP Danny, I think of you often.

Trooper Daniel O'Brien saved my family, my dad's car stalled and he pushed our car across the bridge, saving the lives of my mom, dad, sister and myself. We were staying at a friend's vacation home in Matunuck when the water started coming up to the windows and we crawled out. I was 12 at the time and I can still see the water rushing down the windshield as he pushed our car very fast along the road, not being able to see anything in front of us, he pushed us to safety along side an old gas station, then went back across the bridge to attempt to save others. We were the last ones he saved before he lost his own life. John and Kay Stevens, daughters Pamela and Judith, we lived at 61 Potter St. in East Providence we lived above dad's shop Stevens Saw Service. Thank you Trooper O'Brien, ironically my mom's maiden name was Catherine O'Brien.
