Correctional Officer Ronald Richardson was assassinated during a court case in which he was a key witness.

The case stemmed from a 1990 incident in which he and another officer had been taken hostage after they confronted a man in a halfway house who was smoking crack cocaine.

Officer Richardson was leaving his home at 7:30 am when he was shot and killed by a professional hit man as he got into his car. The shooting occurred in the 5700 block of Blaine Street, NE. The suspect was arrested and convicted of his murder.

Officer Richardson had served with the District of Columbia Department of Corrections for nine years. He was survived by his wife.
