The ambulance was hit 19 times. His brother-and-law was found in the home with a gunshot wound to his leg. He said the suspect, in an extreme state of anger, was complaining about a traffic ticket he was given a week earlier for not having an inspection sticker on his windshield when he suddenly pulled a pistol, shot him, and then shot up his home. When police searched his car they found two .22 caliber rifles and 30 boxes of bullets.

The suspect, 31, was committed to a mental hospital.

Officer Milbert was shot once in the neck as he took cover behind an ambulance. The suspect surrendered a short time later after being shot in the leg during the ensuing shootout. Another officer was also wounded during the shootout. The suspect was committed to a mental hospital.

Officer Milbert had served with the Quincy Police Department for 10 years. He was survived by his wife.
