Patrolman Clarence Mihlheiser succumbed to injuries he received in a single-vehicle crash on August 25, 1939.

Officers were setting up barricades and closing the Grand Central Parkway due to a severe storm. Patrolman Mihlheiser was on the running board of the patrol vehicle when the automobile skidded and struck a tree near 68th Avenue in Forest Hills. He was transported to Parsons Hospital, Flushing, where he died three days later.

Patrolman Mihlheiser had served with the New York City Police Department for at nine years and was assigned to the Grand Central Parkway Precinct, the present-day Highway 3. He was survived by his wife, son, infant daughter, parents, six brothers, and two sisters.
