John P. McGonigal

Patrolman McGonigal was shot and killed while investigating a suspicious person in an alley between Third Street and Fourth Street shortly after midnight. As Patrolman McGonnigal approached, the suspect opened fire, mortally wounding the patrolman after shooting him in the liver and the thigh.

The suspect fled the scene. In March of 1921, the suspect was shot and killed by the Monroe City marshal.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 94th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
